authorized device name

Why are all the discussion for "authorized device name" closed? I too wish to customize the names of the listed devices, because it's hard to identify them by the names listed. If the discussions are closed because there is another thread open, then please provide a link to the other thread. And maybe fix the search engine to locate the open thread before the closed ones.
