No Safari Extension for 1Password 8

I just upgraded to 1Password8 on my Mac (12.3.1). The app seems to work ok, but I can't get the extension to load in Safari. The "1Password for Safari" installer seems to think it's installed, but clicking the "Open Safari Preferences" button does nothing. In the App Store, it seems to think the extension is installed also, since it gives me an "Open" button instead of "Install". But clicking "Open" just opens the "1Password for Safari" app which doesn't seem to do anything.

If I go into Safari and manually open Preferences > Extensions, I don't see the 1Password extension listed there. There's no icon in the tab bar like there used to be for 1Password 7. I don't get any autofill suggestions.

How am I supposed to install the Safari extension?

1Password Version: 8.8.0

OS Version: macOS 12.3.1
Browser:_ Safari

  • Hi @Khuforzu:

Thanks for letting us know about this. If you quit Safari, then open 1Password and choose Help > Troubleshooting > Fix Missing Safari Extension, when you next launch Safari, is 1Password for Safari visible in Preferences > Extensions? Let me know.

Yes, "Fix Missing Safari Extension" fixed the issue for me. Thank you.

I tried this, but the extension still does not appear, where are you supposed to obtain the extension from? The one in the Mac App Store seems to be a couple months old, Is this supposed to work in 1P8?

The Mac App Store is the only place to get the 1Password for Safari extension for 1Password 8. It is version 2.3.7 as of this writing. ‎1Password for Safari on the Mac App Store

I did all what was said in this post and more. With 1Password 8 and Safari 15.6.1 I get a a note saying that to protect safety and privacy the extension was not activate and to refer to a note by Apple which is outdated and not updated anymore.
Basically, I find 1Password useless with Safari and Firefox as well; Firefox says that to have the extension running the application (i.e. 1Password) must be running but, even if it does, the extension does not work. I have been so frustrated I refuse to try Chrome.
. I'm sorry but the image is in Italian, it says what I specified abov

By the way: there must be something somewhere in Safari because the same happens with any extension I try to install.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble enabling 1Password for Safari on your Mac. Can you try to boot your Mac into Safe Mode and enable the extension from there:

If that doesn't work then, since you're also seeing the issue with other extensions, I suggest reaching out to Apple Support so that they can take a look at what might be going wrong. 🙂
