Watchtower score not identical

Hi All,

I have 1Password installed on my Mac, Windows PC and iPhone.

The Watchtower score on my Mac and iPhone is 1190.

The Watchtower score on my Windows PC is 1150.

(A difference of 40 points)

Given I am logged into the same 1Password account on all three devices, shouldn't the Watchtower score be the same across all three? I've checked and there are no un-synced changes or anything... Can anyone suggest what the problem/issue is?

Mac OS 26.0.1
1Password for Mac 8.11.12 (81112027)

---

Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6725)
1Password for Windows 8.11.12 (81112027)

---

iOS 26.0.1
1Password for iOS 8.11.12 (81112027)

  • Hello gussic! 👋

Thanks for the question! The Watchtower score is calculated per-device and it doesn’t sync between all of your devices. Certain per-device settings (such as whether you have automatic updates turned on for the 1Password app on a device) will also change your score.

Before we dig deeper can you please check the following:

    1. Are you using multiple accounts (like a work account) on one of your devices? Or are you using collections on one device?
    2. Are you using the latest version of the 1Password 8 app on all devices: How to keep 1Password up to date
    3. Do you see different suggestions regarding weak or reused passwords, or inactive two-factor authentication, from Watchtower on different devices? Or are these suggestions the same on all devices?
    4. Have you enabled biometric unlock and automatic updates for 1Password on all devices?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    -Dave

      Hi 1P_Dave

Thanks for the reply. I have replied to each of your questions below.

Are you using multiple accounts (like a work account) on one of your devices? Or are you using collections on one device?

A: No, just the same, single 1Password account (a personal one). No I am not using collections on any of the devices.

Are you using the latest version of the 1Password 8 app on all devices

A: Yes I believe so - I have the version numbers in the original post and have checked for updates on all of them, none of them are reporting an available update. They're all on the Production channel.

Do you see different suggestions regarding weak or reused passwords, or inactive two-factor authentication, from Watchtower on different devices? Or are these suggestions the same on all devices?

A: No, the same (singular) suggestion across all three devices - alerting me that Lululemon now accepts passkeys, but as I am in Australia, the Australian version of the Lululemon website doesn't yet support passkeys...

Have you enabled biometric unlock and automatic updates for 1Password on all devices?

A: Yes, TouchID on the Mac, FaceID on the iPhone and Windows Hello (via a Logitech Brio 4K) on the Windows PC. Automatic updates are switched on for all devices.

      Cheers!

Thanks for answering those questions, that all sounds normal. Those are some of the main reasons why a Watchtower score can vary between devices. There are also some device-specific settings that can affect the score. For example, whether browser or app integration is enabled in the desktop app (this option isn’t available on mobile).

Because the score is generated per device, it’s completely normal for the score itself to differ. The key thing is to follow Watchtower’s recommendations for any improvements it suggests. 🙂
