How to disable automatic spell checking?

Hi @pixycz:
Thanks for your feedback on this. It isn't currently possible to disable spell checking from inside 1Password 8. I've shared your feedback with the team. While I can't promise anything specifically, we use feedback like yours to help inform the future of 1Password.

Same issue here, I would love to see this corrected.

Same here. I constantly switch between Dutch and English. Would be great if such option could be added.
Edit: running on Win100 -
Thanks for sharing your use case @hansvandamme, I've added your feedback as well. Let me know if you have any questions. ๐

Everything is full of red squiggly lines, which is just visual clutter and keeps distracting me from the actual user interface.
Can you let us know whether thereโs an undocumented setting for this, for example by manually adding a property in${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/1Password/settings/settings.json

I'm afraid that I'm not aware of such a hidden setting. I'm sorry that you're seeing a lot of underlined text from the spellchecker, can you tell me if you're storing information in a different language in 1Password? I'd like to pass along your feedback and experience to our product team.

Please... I can only second that. I have tons of red-underlined text and this is not a question of language. One really needs to be able to switch spell-checking off.

Thank you for the feedback, can you tell me a little more about the kinds of words that are being underlined? Knowing more about how the issue is manifesting on your Mac will help our product and development teams better understand the need for the change and find the correct solution.

Usernames that are completely arbitrary in their structure e.g. lx42we2JsW

Thank you, I've passed along your feedback and use case to the team internally.

Same issue here, I am in the trial period. Not having the option to disable the spell checker is affecting the quality of life of UI. It could be a deal breaker for me. Besides, I can see it has been requested multiple times with no effect...uhm.

Welcome to 1Password! I would be happy to pass along your feedback to the team. Can you tell me where you're seeing the spellcheck affect the experience for you? Is it when using arbitrary usernames like some have reported above? Or when using words in another language?

It appears in any text field, underlining many words. I attach two screenshots as an example. Thanks

Thank you for those screenshots, I've shared them with the team and let them know of your request to add an option to turn off the spellcheck in 1Password. While I can't make any promises, the team will consider the request for the future. ๐

How long will it take until there is an option to disable the spell checking?
0 -
First: I am working in two languages. Any spell checking will fail in at least one language.
Second: Spell checking is a feature. Features must be toggled on an off.
Third: I dislike spell checking in general and the red lines hurt my eyes. ;)0 -
Here's my vote to pass to the dev-team as well. It's driving me nuts. Having multilanguage items in 1P is a UX disaster. It's almost as bad as working with MS Teams. At least give us the option in the beta for a little JSON property
{spellcheck: false}
or something. As for the question why?
That's why.0 -
Thanks @NLSurfMan
I've shared your thoughts and your example with the team.

The team is asking for more details on what you experienced. Can you provide more? What languages are giving you trouble? You're welcome to provide those here or you're welcome to email those to us if you prefer. If you'd prefer email please use

.I was able to translate the message with no trouble. Can you share if this is in the true note section or if this is in a defined text field? It looks like the latter. I tried replicating your experience. I was unable to do so. My copy is set to use the default language of the OS. Do you have 1Password set to a specific language other (different) than your OS? Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I am typing in both Dutch and English. My OS is set to English. 1P is set to "system default".
This happens both in the the notes section as well a regular text fields:
If you save the item, it's no longer visible. If you edit the item and the field gets focus, it's appears again.
I don't know why you would want to translate the message, that was not the point. The screenshot I showed was to demonstrate how annoying it is to have a gazillion red squiggly lines in my text, even my text is flawlessly spelled, but in a different language. I have the same gripe with MS Word, but there I can turn it off.
Checking spelling is a nice feature, but for those of us who are multi-lingual, and use the 1P app likewise, spellchecking becomes annoying. The ability to turn it off is then a must.
For good measure: using 1Password for Windows 8.10.35 (81035003)

Translate was the wrong word. My apologies. I actually grabbed the text you entered and tried it on my side, with no trouble and I did not experience the spell checking issue you mentioned. Thanks for sharing your configuration. Now I have a few additional data points to check.

Thanks @NLSurfMan
I see what you described on Windows. Thanks for that. I'll get this before the team.

Sorry for the additional ping. The team has asked for further clarification and if you have Dutch set up on the device in any fashion like a secondary keyboard or perhaps an additional language? I realize you mentioned English earlier. Thanks for being so helpful.

Thanks for sharing that. I have passed it along to the development team for review.

Clearly: Your team should NOT ask for more information. If I don't want spellchecking, I don't want spellchecking and it freaks the hell out of me, when I see 99 of 100 words being with red clutter.
I am pretty close to cancelling my subscription.1 -
I'm sorry for the frustration. The feature request to add an option to turn off spellcheck is still open with the team and I don't have any updates to share at the moment. I've let the team know that this is still an important issue for you.
I see 99 of 100 words being with red clutter
You previously wrote that it was arbitrary usernames that were underlined by spellcheck. Are there other words that you're seeing underlined as well? Are you using a Mac or Windows PC and are you entering information in a language other than what you've set for the operating system? I want to make sure that the I capture the full scope of the impact to your workflow for the team.
