1Password unlock with Apple Watch and watchOS 9 is not working

After updating my Apple Watch Series 6 to watchOS 9, unlocking 1Password has stopped working. 1Password shows the watch icon but when I click on it to unlock via my watch, my watch does not respond. I tried turning off and turning on unlock with watch to attempt to fix this but that made no difference.

1Password Version: 8.9.4
Extension Version: 2.3.7
OS Version: macOS 12.6
Browser:_ Safari

Turning off and turning on Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac under System Preferences appears to fix this issue.

    Didn't work for me unfortunately

EDIT: was an issue with my Mac Studio only

  • Thanks for the update @jkwuc89

  • @VirgilBoy Your post I am not 100% sure about. Was it not working previously and it's now resolved? Or are you continuing to have trouble? I've seen a few reports not related to 1Password where a few restarts were needed to shake the cobwebs free. You might try that.

@tommy All is good. Switched to my Mac Mini for comparison and Apple Watch Unlock for 1PW worked normally. Rebooted the Studio and that fixed the issue there.

  • Thanks VirgilBoy. 😅

I have the same versions with the addition of watchOS 9.0. I receive the haptic feedback on my watch and an alert on my watch which quickly disappears. When the alert disappears and I double-click the side button of my watch, Apple Pay is invoked.

I'm sorry to hear that Apple Watch unlock isn't working with 1Password on your Mac. Can you try the following steps:

    1. Disable Apple Watch Unlock in 1Password for Mac (1Password > Preferences > Security > Uncheck "Apple Watch").
    2. Disable Apple Watch Unlock for your Mac (In the MacOS menu bar:  > System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Uncheck "Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac")
    3. Turn off your Mac.
    4. Restart your Apple Watch: Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support
    5. Turn on your Mac.
    6. Enable Apple Watch Unlock for your Mac (In the MacOS menu bar:  > System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Check "Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac")
    7. Enable Apple Watch Unlock in 1Password (1Password > Preferences > Security > Check "Apple Watch").

Let me know if that doesn't resolve the issue and I'll be happy to help further. 🙂

    Hello there !

Same issue after full restoration from a backup for both the Mac and the Watch.
The steps above worked perfectly. 👍

    Thanks !
