I have 1Password 8 for Mac and cannot delete 1Password 7

I downloaded 1Password 8 for Mac and cannot delete 1Password 7. I keep getting an error that it is running in the background.

I use a Safari extension too. I use "1Password for Safari 2.3.8". I previously downloaded the extension "1Password 7.9.6 from 1Password" but it doesn't work as well.

Today, I clicked on my Safari extension "1Password for Safari 2.3.8" and it was trying to launch the 1Password 7 app. I closed the browser and quit both 1Password apps (8 and 7). 1Password 7 seems to be confusing my Mac and my extensions. Please advise how to delete the old app or combine them

    Yep that worked. Thanks!

  • Hello @nateb20! 👋

I'm sorry to hear that 1Password 7 wasn't removed automatically when you installed 1Password 8. Just to confirm: do you see "1Password 7" in your Mac's Applications folder? If you do then follow these steps to remove the old app:

    1. Quit all open web browsers.
    2. Open the Applications folder on your Mac.
    3. Double-click on 1Password 7 from your Applications folder. You don't need to unlock the app.
    4. Right click on the 1Password 7 icon in your macOS menubar and click Quit 1Password Completely. If you see any other 1Password icons in your menubar then quit those as well.
    5. Drag "1Password 7" to the trash.
    6. Restart your Mac.

    I hope that helps! 🙂
