I had strange problems with my master password on my mac, so I followed the instruction, so I could start 1password fresh. Then I could import the data and that worked well, so I could setup synchronization with iCloud again (after deleting 1password data on iCloud).

Now I have problem with 1password for iOS. I demands my password (which stopped working) so I tried to delete the app and then redownloaded it from AppStore but still it wants my master password. How can I start the iOS app fresh?

Because I have strange problems with my master password (it works sometimes but not everytime), I decided to export all objects from my vault to a 1pif file. Then I created a new vault with the same password and then I wanted to import the file.
It turns out that the 1pif file is a directory so when selecting it, it opens and then presents me with two directories (attachments and previews) and a file data.1pif which is grayed out.

So how can I import what I exported from 1password?

  • Hello @SEMats! 👋

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble importing your items. As a start, I recommend that you update to version 7.9.6 of 1Password 7 so that you're running the latest version.

Next, when you exported the .1pif file 1Password should have created a directory that contains the .1pif file itself. You can import the file by selecting the directory and then clicking Open at step 3 in this guide: Move your data from other applications to 1Password

Great that did work! But I did assume that changing to a new vault and setting that as the default vault would also change the master password to that vaults password but 1password do still want the old master password that has stopped to work completely now (so I can't change it). Any ideas on how to proceed?

I did follow this instruction: https://support.1password.com/cs/starting-over/

I deleted the 1password data on Mac so I then could start with a fresh 1password.

Now I have problem with my iOS iPhone instead (which is in this case https://1password.community/discussion/134999/i-have-had-to-reset-1password-on-my-mac-after-starting-over-with-icloud-i-cant-get-access-from-ios)

Thank you for the reply. I've merged your two threads together so that I could reply in one spot.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble unlocking 1Password on your iPhone. Before I can advise further, I'll need to know more about how you're using 1Password. I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

The report will be in zip format. Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

@Dave_1P the support person seems unwilling to help me with resetting 1password on my iPhone but tries instead selling an 1password account / membership to me. Is it possible for you to help me finding a support person that takes my problem seriously and who want to help me or do I have to find another password manager to solve the problem? I do not want a 1password account. I have payed for the standalone version and is happy with it (when it works as intended).

  • @SEMats

Thank you for reaching out. I've brought up the ticket with the team and one of my colleagues will send you a new reply as soon as possible. I recommend that you continue to work over email since our dedicated team is in the best position to assist with legacy standalone vault issues. To prevent the conversation from happening in two different places at once I'm closing this thread.

    Thank you for your patience.
