Safari keeps "overriding" 1Password. Can't even select 1 password... what's up?

I'm a new MacBook user. Seems like Safari and 1Pass are not compatible? Do I need 1Pass on a Mac? For example, I just tried to sign into a regular website; clicked on open and fill; no option to use the 1Password user name or password. Kept defaulting me to Safari.

1Password Version: 8.9.8
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: Ventura 13.0
Browser:_ Safari

  • Hi @cherylann,

Sorry to hear 1Password isn't behaving as expected in Safari, I'm happy to help. If you don't already have 1Password 8 and the Safari browser extension on your new Mac, you can download them here:

We can then confirm that you have our Safari browser extension enabled and that Safari's built in autofill features are disabled as to avoid any conflict:

    1. Open Safari
    2. Click "Safari" in your menu bar (top left of your screen beside the Apple icon)
    3. Click "Settings"
    4. In the window that appears, navigate to "Autofill" and uncheck all those boxes:

    1. Then navigate to "Extensions" and ensure that "1Password for Safari" is checked:

Try signing into a website again afterwards and let me know how it goes! 🙂
