Moving 2FA for 1Password account from one phone to another

I have 2FA turned on on my 1Password account, so I use an authenticator app on my phone to generate the codes when I sign in on a new device. I've now got a new phone. Is there a specific way within 1Password that I should switch over to using the new phone for 2FA? Or, should I just turn off 2FA on my account, and then immediately re-enable it, using the new phone? (My authenticator allows me to backup secrets, but I don't want to do that, as I want to keep them just on my device)

If turning it off and on again is indeed the right answer, am I correct that 2FA can be turned off from the Mac desktop app, but that I would need to sign in to 1password.com in a browser to be able to turn it back on again?

  • Hi @nettle,

I can't speak to whether or not it's possible to locally transfer data in your authenticator app of choice between devices so it sounds like disabling and reenabling 2FA for your 1Password account would be the better path. You can do both on 1Password.com.

Give it a try and let me know how things go or if you have any questions. 🙂
