WebAuthenticationSession and ASWebAuthenticationSession: 1Password extension does not work

When a WebAuthenticationSession or ASWebAuthenticationSession on macOS opens a Safari window, the 1Password extension does not appear to work. A 1Password button appears in the username/email address field, but clicking it does nothing.
