1Password started locking up after every use

Every time I access 1Password for the last several days, I have to unlock it with my password. The Security settings are that it should never lock up.

I shut down 1Password every night so that I expect to have to unlock it each day in the morning. But I should not have to unlock it during the day after that. This has just changed so that it is always requiring unlocking.

1Password Version: 8.10.6
Extension Version: 2.10.0
OS Version: 12.6.6
Browser:_ Brave

  • Hello @jasimon9! 👋

I'm sorry that 1Password is locking more often than it should be. Can you please tell me if the 1Password menu bar icon is turned off or on? Follow these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Settings.
    4. Is "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" turned off or on?

If the option is already turned on then can you tell me if you restart 1Password or completely close it (by right-clicking on the menu bar icon and then clicking Quit) before you see it lock? Do you keep the app's main window open on the screen throughout the day or do you close it after using it? I look forward to hearing from you.

I had checked 1P in the main app and pasted in the screen shot in the original post. Then I thought that maybe the extension has its own settings. So I checked that, and it was set to automatically lock after 10 minutes. So I turned that off--I am hoping that solves it.

Since I have been using 1P for a very long time, what would cause this setting to change?

And why would the extension have an independent setting, or at least not have some indication that you need to set it in two places?

Usually, the app and browser extension will lock and unlock together, according to the auto-lock settings in the main 1Password app. To make sure that's turned on, here's what to do:

    1. Open and unlock the main 1Password app.
    2. In the sidebar, click the 🔽 down arrow, then Settings...
    3. On the Browser tab of Settings, make sure that Connect with 1Password in the browser is turned on.
    4. Open your web browser and click 1Password in the browser's toolbar to make sure it's unlocked.
    5. Right-click the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar, then Settings.
    6. In the General section, make sure that Integrate with 1Password app is turned on. You should see a 🟢 green circle to confirm that 1Password and the browser can talk to each other.

Then, when the main 1Password app locks and unlocks, so too will 1Password in the browser.

Give that a try and let me know how you get on. I'll be here if you need further help. :)

The "Integrate" setting in the browser extension was turned off, so I re-enabled it. I believe it was off because earlier I might have been advised to turn it off, because I remember that it had been previously enabled.

In any case, it is enabled now, and I will report back if issues continue.
