I want to export all 1Password data into printable form.

In LastPass I used to export my data into a .csv which I imported into a spreadsheet, printed and put in my safe. But 1Password says it allows export to .CSV for user names and passwords only. The export to 1pux format creates an export.data file which I can open with a text editor, but the formatting is not fielded and is a mess to read. What's the best way to get a well formatted, easy to read, printable output of my 1password data, including URLs, usernames, passwords, notes, etc.?

  • Hello @rmitchell! 👋

1Password 8 only supports exporting logins and passwords to a CSV file and the 1PUX file format is not formatted for printing. In general, I don't recommend exporting or printing your passwords since that will remove them from the secure and encrypted environment of 1Password. Any exported or printed copy of your passwords will be in plain text and so will be readable by anyone who views it. In addition to this if you change any of your passwords in the future the exported or printed copy will become outdated.

Can you tell me a little more about why you'd like to print your items and store the printed copy in a safe? There might be a better option that I can suggest. 🙂

That is a backup. If something happens to 1Password or my data online I still have a copy in my safe. I can put it on a USB and store it there I guess. Is there an option to store an encrypted backup?

Thank you for the clarification. With 1Password 8 your data is not only stored locally on each of your devices but it is also encrypted and backed up to 1Password.com. You can even restore previous versions if you accidentally delete or edit an item: View and restore previous versions of items

The encrypted data is further replicated to redundant copies on our end to guard against any data loss. This encrypted backup is part of the membership that you're paying for and it saves you from having to worry about creating your own encrypted backups.

There isn't such an option at the moment. You'd have to export your data to 1PUX and then encrypt it yourself by using something like Apple's Disk Utility to create an encrypted DMG file. But I wouldn't recommend that since this copy of your items won't be protected by 1Password's security and dual-key encryption.
