Why does it not work to call a phone number stored in a card?

I have a problem that affects both 1Password on MAC Ventura 13.4 (1P: v.8.10.7) and iPhone iOS 16.5 (1P: v.8.10.7):
I usually also save phone numbers on the tabs, but when I click on the number and click on "call", nothing happens and the call doesn't dial.
How does this happen?
Thanks

  • Hello @gsbaraglia! 👋

I'm sorry that calling a phone number that you have stored in 1Password isn't working. Can you tell me if you have any symbols in the number? For example, do you have any brackets in the number like this: (123) 456-7891? If you do then can you remove the brackets and then try calling the number again?

Let me know how that goes. 🙂

    Thanks @Dave_1P
no, I don't have phone numbers with symbols.
I have tried with many different numbers and nothing happens when I click on Call button, both on MAC and on iPhone.
    Can you help me?

I just tested this with the sample phone number of +12125551212, and FaceTime opened when I clicked the 🔽 down arrow on the phone number field, then Call. When editing the item, the phone number was shown as +12125551212. This would "translate" to a North American phone number of +1 (212) 555-1212.

Can you try adding +12125551212 as a phone number and let me know if that works for you too?

Phone numbers should be in the standard interntional format for maximum compatibility:

+[country code][area code with leading zero removed, if applicable][subscriber number]

No spaces or any other symbols should be included.

Let me know if you're able to "call" +12125551212 and we can investigate further. :)

Eureka! @GreyM1P you suggest me the solution: no spaces or any other symbols should be included.
But I would like to point out that this problem did not exist in previous versions of 1P: I had many phone numbers stored with spaces and they still worked.
I only detected it a few months ago (and my 1P is always updated to the latest version!).
    Thank you very much

  • @gsbaraglia

I'm happy that Grey was able to help. Our developers are aware of the issue, hopefully it can be resolved with a future update to 1Password. 🙂

Many thanks to @Dave_1P and @GreyM1P!
1Password is fantastic not only for the product but also for the support.
I deal with cybersecurity and therefore I have written a lot about password managers, this is my latest article published, where I also and especially talk about 1Password: https://www.cybersecurity360.it/cultura-cyber/password-manager-cosa-sono-quali-sono-i-migliori-come-usarli-e-perche/

  • Thank you for the kind words. 🙂
