Feature Request: Password Generator
Yes, I've read the threads. Here's a recent one: https://1password.community/discussion/138894/how-to-generate-a-password
I cannot understand (truly - not being dramatic) why the 1Password app does not have a "generate password" button?
Please, product folks, add this simple button to the app. Better yet, for Mac, make it part of the drop-down menu when you click the 1Password button in the menu bar (no need even to open the full app).
You already have the code to do so in your browser extensions and on your website: https://1password.com/password-generator/
So why not include it in the app?
And before it is pointed out, yes, I know I can do this in the browser extensions (Chrome, Safari, etc.), but sometimes, it's easier to call up the app instead of a browser.
Thank you for listening!
Joe

Hello @josepk! 👋
Thank you for the feedback! I'm happy to pass along your request to add a password generator to the menu bar to our Product team for consideration. To support your request, can you provide an example or two of what you're generating the passwords for? Is it for Mac apps where 1Password in the browser isn't able to run (and suggest a password)? Or for some other use?
The better the Product team understands your need for the feature the better they'll be able to prioritize your request. I look forward to hearing from you. 🙂

Hi Dave - sure - happy to give you a couple of scenarios.
a) There are occasions where, as an IT admin, I am generating a password for a new employee (new user) for a particular tool they will use and have no need to store that password after it is sent to the user.
b) I may be generating a password for an app I use, but for whatever reason, I do not want it stored in 1Password. It could be for a site I know I will only visit once.
Does that help?

Thank you for providing those additional details. I've passed them, and your request for a standalone password generator in the menu bar and in the app, to our Product team so that they can consider adding such a feature in the future.
For now, you can generate a new password in the app by creating a new Password item, clicking on the password field, using the password generator there, copying the generated password to your desired destination, and then closing the item without saving it.

Thank you!
p.s. I know about the process of creating a new Password item, clicking the password field, not saving it when done, etc. Too clunky :(

Thanks again for the feedback! 🙂

I use it in mini frequently as well. 1PW removing this facility (as well as several other very unhelpful changes) in v8 is why I am still on version 7.

Thanks @adamjb and @deoldphart
I've noted your comments for the teams review.

I want it too, every passwordmanager for windows has this feature.

I'd also really like to see this feature, both in the Windows app and in the iOS app.

any news about it?

Thanks for following up. We typically don't pre-announce features before they are released in order to avoid disappointing folks if a feature is delayed or cancelled.
Keep an eye on our release notes, if the feature is released in the future that's where you'll see it mentioned first: 1Password Releases
