Hello,

Curious if anyone here has successfully gone through the steps of installing 1Password for Steam Deck / Steam OS? Complete newbie to Linux which Steam OS is based off so I don't even know which Linux distribution it uses let alone how to complete the steps listed on the 1Password Linux page (link)

As an update I figured out how to install it using the flatpak method even though that limits some of the available functionality. Still open to hearing thoughts from anyone who was able to successfully install it using other methods where functionality is not limited.

  • Hey @fastrhythm, thanks for reaching out. I'm glad to hear you were able to install 1Password on your Steam Deck. With that said, are you encountering any issues opening Discover since installing via 1Password via Flatpak? The reason I ask is a few users reported that the installation causes Discover to crash.

Other users have reported success installing via AUR. However, it appears that SteamOS updates wipe everything that's not installed through Steam/Flatpak so this method is not ideal.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Ali

    Hi,
I just tried to install 1P on my SteamDeck (v3.5.7 build 20231122.1) so thought I would give you my experience.

So tried AUR: but on the last command makepkg -si I've got an error ERROR: cannot find fakeroot library.

Tried Flatpak: installation was fine and app is working as intended (apart from the features already mentioned as not working). Discover (5.27.5) didn't crash directly though, it's working mostly fine (updated apps, uninstalled and reinstalled VLC) but can freeze something like a full 1min after installing an app and eventually crash if you insist too much.

Could not login on the Firefox extension though as the browser kept asking for my hardware key and not letting me choose my TOTP 2FA instead

Regarding AUR, the steamdeck doesn't come with the proper build tools to compile. You can disable root protections to install them with sudo pacman -S base-devel (source), but they'd be wiped away with the next OS update anyways.

Flatpak seems the best way, unless you're willing to use a beta system daemon to get the AUR release.
