Date with alerts

I would like to see date with alerts. If I add date then it should allow me to set a reminder. This mainly helps for password change. Also I’m looking at option to view data with alerts. So here if I know the password needs to be changed in 180 days then I can add 180 days to my alert so it can alert me to change. So I’m not surprised and don’t have to rush to change when I have something important to do.

Thank you for the suggestion! I've filed a feature request on your behalf so that our Product team can look into adding an optional password expiry reminder to items.

In general, 1Password doesn't include a default reminder to change your passwords when an arbitrary amount of time has passed because we don't recommend that practice. Instead we recommend that you change your passwords if one of the following conditions is met:

    1. The password for a website/account is not a secure and unique password generated by 1Password.
    2. 1Password's Watchtower sends you a warning that your password for a website/account has been reused or was found in a data breach.

You can read more about how Watchtower helps you keep your passwords safe here: Use Watchtower to find passwords you need to change

What if I would like to follow a practice of changing passwords every 3/4months? The alert option would also help. It would be great to have such a feature. It can be like set a timer for number of days.

I saw the link you shared for watchtower. It's good information. It shows 2FA for Microsoft but they work only with their authenticator. Some work only with Duo and others.

Regular password changes for no other reason but because an amount of time has passed is no longer recommended as a security practice by many cybersecurity experts and organizations such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and 1Password itself.

We've written a blog article on the topic here: How often should you change your password?

This is a good article. But there’s a fact missing here. When I’m asked to change at last minute it’s not always that a weak password is selected. It’s generated through a password manager too. So rather than waiting for Siter to force me to change at the last moment since I didn’t change in time, it’s better I get an alert in time so I can change at ease rather than in hurry.

I can see how an expiry alert feature would be useful in that scenario. While I can't make any promises, I've passed your request along to our Product team for consideration. 🙂

Also please understand whatever you say and believe but if the service I'm using believes that I need to change every 60days then I don't have an option but to change. Also your password suggestion depending on the site is useless as I took the suggestion and saved it and it gave me error that my password is wrong. Now I'm locked out.

I see that you've opened another thread for this topic, let's continue the conversation over there: https://1password.community/discussion/141578/password-change
