Can my mac app interact directly with 1Password for better user experience?

I asked this a few years ago and I could not, but I thought that I have seen this kind of interaction with another app. Is there some way to allow the user to fill in passwords for my app (which is a mail client, so the account setup phase is relevant)?

Thanks,
Scott

  • Hello @sjlinwarsaw! 👋

Good question! Folks can fill their login information into Mac apps by using 1Password 8's Universal Autofill feature: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac

    I hope that helps! 🙂

Okay, so there is still no direct way to have my app to integrate? Good to know. But there is a way to save a value into 1Password isn't there, even if it is just a URL that we can post to ?

Thank you for the reply. You can build integrations with 1Password by using our Command Line Interface (CLI). This is a tool built by 1Password for the purpose of accessing 1Password data. For example you can use the CLI's op command to do things like create new items.

You can learn more about the CLI here: Command Line Password Manager Tool

Let me know if that's what you were looking for or if I misunderstood your question.
