Automate moving Items

In the app, you can "move" items from one vault to another. From my understanding, this is done via separate create and delete operations. I need to move an item from 1 vault to another vault while maintaining history. I can get the password history, but no dates with the passwords, nor does there appear to be a way of posting that information in the create. Is there any way to do this other than to save with the first password, then issue patches to update the password until I reach the last one?
