Create New Password Autofill - Memorable Password

When I go into 1P and create a new login, I'll hit "create a new password." I have the settings set as follows: Type: memorable password, Words: 3, Separator: Numbers and Symbols, Capitalize ON, Full Words ON.

My problem is that when I'm creating a password right on a website, the settings don't stay. For example, I was just creating one and there were no capital letters. So that meant I had to open the app and do it there. (it wasn't allowing me to do a change on the fly right on the site).

I've had this issue in the past as well, where I'd get a random password instead of a memorable one when filling them in on the web. That problem has gone away, but still having issues like the one above.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi @xaserax 👋

The password generator used by the 1Password browser extension can be found in the browser extension itself, if you set the same parameters there and enable "Use as default for suggestions" do you see an improvement?

When I go to create a new password when I'm setting up an account on a new website, it doesn't give me a password with capitals in it. And most websites require you to use at least one capital letter.

I have "capitalize" turned on and I can see it turned on when I create a new password within the 1password app itself. And it always does it correctly there. So I'm unable to do it on the website, but I have to go to the app and do it. This becomes particularly annoying when the site I'm setting up an account for won't allow me to cut and paste and I have to write the whole thing in while unable to see what I'm actually writing because they cover it up. haha.

Just to add: the screen that allows you to set the parameters for the password creation only shows up in the app for me. It doesn't show up when I'm on the web. I didn't think it was supposed to, but just want to be clear that it doesn't show up. I've attempted to upload a screen capture of that (the one I see on the app), but it didn't appear to work.

I'm just seeing that I asked this same question a few weeks ago. It was answered.

The issue is that the web extension isn't connected to the app, so you have to set the parameters for passwords in the app and the extension separately. I now set the parameters in the extension so hopefully this will be fixed.

Adding all this just in case someone else is looking for answers in the future. Thanks.

Thank you for explaining this. I didn't realize the app and the extension were separated and this info had to be entered individually. Appreciate the help.

I'm merged your two threads together in order to keep the conversation in the same place. I'm happy that Andrew was able to clarify things, let us know if you have any other questions in the future. 🙂
