12 year old MacBook and new Mac mini compatibility

I have a 12 year old MacBook that still works well. It's at the highest OS available for it 10.13.6 High Sierra. It still runs well because I update the ram and installed an SSD on it a few years ago.

I just bought a new Mac mini. It is on Sonoma.

Can I use 1password 8 on the Mac mini and still use 1password 7 on the MacBook?

Or is there a workaround to use 1password 8 on the MacBook?

Not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello @PerryDro! 👋

Thanks for the question. 1Password 8 requires macOS Catalina 10.15 or later so you won't be able to run it on your old MacBook.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 hasn't been updated since November 2020 and is missing several critical security updates that Apple has released over the last few years. I wouldn't recommend continuing to use this old version of macOS, although I know that it's sometimes not possible to update or upgrade an old Mac.

With the launch of 1Password 8 for Mac, 1Password 7 for Mac is no longer supported and we recommend using 1Password 8 exclusively since that's where our development focus is. You might be able to continue to run 1Password 7 on the old Mac, but I would recommend using your new Mac Mini and 1Password 8 going forward.

I'm sorry that I don't have a better answer to provide.
