Safari 14.2.1 - Extension No Longer Works

Not much more to add. I click on the icon and a new tab opens but is blank. Nothing can be done beyond that.

I've turned off the extension and turned it back on, but nothing.

This is using Version 2.17.0 from the App Store.

1Password Version: 8.10.20
Extension Version: 2.17.0
OS Version: 11.5.2
Browser: Safari

  • Hey @SuperAwesomeGuy,

I'm sorry for the trouble you are having with 1Password in Safari. Can you start by letting me know if you open and unlock your 1Password desktop app first and them open your browser, is 1Password also unlocked here? Are you able to click on the icon in your toolbar and see your items?

    No problem.

What it seems to do is show the icon as greyed out, but unlocked Clicking the icon Safari opens a blank tab, then it seems to show an icon with color, but locked.

1Password is unlocked on my desktop, and here in Chrome, but not on Safari. I can click the icon in Chrome and it works as expected, but in Safari it only shows a blank tab with no items at all.

I've restarted the computer, the browser, and 1Password. I've disabled and enabled the extension in Safari, but nothing seems to work.

  • Thank you for getting back to me @SuperAwesomeGuy, it sounds like 1Password in your browser is having a hard time connecting with your 1Password app.

Can you give these steps a try and let us know if it improves things:

    1. Right-click the 1Password icon in Safari's toolbar and select "Settings"..
    2. In the General section, disable "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app".
    3. In the Accounts & Vaults section, click the ( ⋮ ) three dots to sign out of your account(s).
    4. Click "+ Sign in to a new account" to sign back in to the 1Password account.
    5. Once you've signed in, a small box will appear on the top right corner of the page, click "Add" to add your account to the 1Password extension.

Before continuing with the next steps, I'd like to check if the extension unlocks before we re-enable integration. At this point, I'd like you to click the 1Password extension to unlock it. Let me know how that goes, then continue with the next steps to re-enable integration:

    1. In Safari, right-click the 1Password icon in Safari's toolbar and select "Settings".
    2. In the "General" section, enable "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app".
    3. Open your 1Password desktop app.
    4. Click "1Password" on the macOS menu bar and select "Settings".
    5. In the General section, ensure "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" is checked.
    6. In the Browser section toggle off, then re-toggle on the "Connect with 1Password in the browser" setting.

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for the instructions. Unfortunately as I mentioned when interacting with the icon it brings up a blank tab.

There is no way to access any menus or settings.

  • I'm sorry for the ongoing trouble @SuperAwesomeGuy.

I think it would be useful if we could take a closer look at some logs and what may be going wrong.

I'd like to ask you to send over a console log from your browser as well as a diagnostics report:

Please attach the reports to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com with a link to this thread.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

When I open the Safari Js log to capture the log, nothing happens. If I open another website I can see the log information.

There is no way I can see to capture a log or any errors. It simply opens a blank tab and that is it.

Others seems to be having the same issue over on Reddit. One user suggested deleting Safari's history, quitting Safari and trying again. It did not work.

I just recently installed the latest 1Password for Safari update and there is no change. Are you guys seeing any errors in your testing environment or on BrowserStack?
