Windows Hello not behaving correctly?

Hello.

I saw someone else has made a post similar to this here: https://1password.community/discussion/142565/windows-hello-dismiss-is-not-working-as-expected.

In their post, they say that dismissing the Windows Hello popup activated accidentally in the browser causes the 1Password Windows app to open and ask for the master password. I also have this behaviour, however, in addition to that, the 1Password Windows program again prompts Windows Hello for a second time.

I have attached a screen recording to explain.

Accidentally activating the in-broswer extension happens just frequently enough to be annoying and as it is apparently intended behaviour, there is no way to stop it from happening.

There's already a button in the browser extension that says "Open 1Password" but we're not given the chance to click it as the decision is made for us.

Can this behaviour be changed to be less... frustrating?

Many thanks,
rbstrachan

  • Hello @rbstrachan ,

Thanks for your feedback here about the use of Windows Hello when 1Password in the browser activated.

As you've mentioned from the other post linked, this is intended behaviour when the extension is integrated with the 1Password app.

Could you let me know where you are usually accidentally clicking the 1Password browser icon? I this from the browser's toolbar or from the icon in the credential fields?

If this is icon from the browser's toolbar, the best suggestion will continue to be unpin the icon. The icon will still appear in credential fields unless you've selected the option to Hide on this page by right-clicking the page, select 1Password - Password Manager > Hide on this page.

Otherwise, disabling app integration is another option:

Disable app integration so 1Password in the browser does not call to the client app:

    • Open your browser, right-click the 1Password icon in the address bar, and choose Settings.
    • Under the General heading, disable Integrate with 1Password app.

I would not recommend the third option as you would only be able to unlock 1Password in the browser > with your account password. The Windows Hello option is tied directly to the app itself.

If you are ok with taking this step, clicking the 1Password icon will prompt you to enter your account password instead of attempting to unlock the app when the browser is newly opened or the extension is currently.

There's already a button in the browser extension that says "Open 1Password" but we're not given the chance to click it as the decision is made for us.

This window with the Open 1Password button appears in lieu of the account password unlock option, when app integration is enabled.

If these options don't work for you, could you please provide some additional feedback or suggestions about how you'd like to see this interaction with the app work? I'd be happy to send your suggestions along to the Product team.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
