Hi, the reason why Arc on a computer in which I have 1password 7 doesn't sync its state with the app is because it's 1password 7? Is there a way to have an extension for that could be unlocked with biometrics and not synced to the 1password application if this is the case?

1Password Version: 7
Extension Version: 2.2.0
OS Version: Not Provided
Browser: Arc

1Password 7 is no longer receiving updates. My suggestion would be to use 1Password 8. Biometrics require the use of the desktop application 1Password 8. It is the portion that directly interacts with the OS.

I would, if I could. But 1password 8 isnt available in the app store nor it runs as non admin therefore I have no other way than using 1password 7. But why in Chrome it does work with fingerprint?

Oh, let me add this. In Chrome, it displays as "connected" while in arc as "Problems connecting" (on the same Mac, of course)

I guess that means that 1password 7 supports biometrics, and simply Arc extension doesn't, am I right?

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the communication between 1Password 7 and the browser extension is broken which means that features like biometric unlock when using 1Password in the browser and sharing a lock state between the extension and the desktop app won't work properly.

1Password 7 is no longer supported and is no longer receiving updates. I can confirm that integration between the browser extension and 1Password 8 works great and I recommend that you upgrade: Upgrade to 1Password 8

If you already have a 1Password membership then the upgrade is free.

But 1password 8 isnt available in the app store nor it runs as non admin

You can download 1Password 8 from our website: https://1password.com/downloads

You'll need to use an admin account to install and update 1Password since the app needs to be installed in the /Applications folder. But you don't need an admin account to use 1Password day-to-day, non-admin users can use it just fine.

Please let me know if you run into any issues with installing 1Password 8 from our website and I'll be happy to help further. 😊

I can ask my admins to let me install once 1password maybe, but only if the application is able to install itself withouth asking for admin password from then on. The problem is our admins don't have time to keep a package like this updated manually. Is that so? Anyway in my opinion 1password 7 is working properly, and is Arc Browser that for some reason is not able to communicate with 1password

If your workplace uses a deployment tool like Intune or Kandji then your IT team can use a special installation package to install 1Password and manage updates for you so that you're not prompted for an admin password yourself. You can send your IT team the following article: Deploy 1Password for Mac and Windows

If your IT team would like to discuss this further then please have them send an email to support@1password.com and our team would be happy to help them deploy 1Password on your organization's work devices.

unfortunately I've already tried this path, but the fact that if provided through JEMF 1password update require manual intervention is a no go for my (big) company. Too much work.

I'm sorry to hear that the available methods don't work for your company, I've passed along your use care to the team internally.

I would still suggest having your IT team reach out to us, we have specialists in business support on our end who might be able to come up with a solution that works for your company. 🙂
