German Localization: Form of address „du“ vs. „Sie“ on website vs. apps
I have noticed that the form of address on the website and in the app (e.g. iOS app) is inconsistent. On the 1Password.com website, users are addressed with the informal "you" („Du“). Apple also uses this form of address consistently in all interfaces and seems to be the natural form. In the 1Password app (iOS, iPadOS, macOS), however, the polite form "Sie" is used. At least within the app this is consistent, but with omni-channel UX in mind the user would probably expect a consistent use of one form or the other.
I would suggest using the informal "Du" form in German in the app as well.
However, changing this consistently throughout the app seems to me to be a major task for the localization team.
Overall, however, I am largely satisfied with the translation. If I see a mistake in the translation, is there a way to report it here or is it better to do it on another channel?

Hello @nNfEfRtqUHrmDWYdocjh! 👋
Thank for flagging the inconsistency in our German translation between the apps and 1Password.com We're working to make the experience more consistent and there's a beta preview of our new design for 1Password.com available here: Experiment #4 – New interface in 1Password.com’s vault view — 1Password Community
If you're willing to give the preview a quick try, is the German translation consistent there with what you see in the apps? And would you still prefer the the informal form instead?

Hi Dave, oh, I think I may not have expressed myself accurately. I was referring more to the product pages on the 1Password website e.g. https://1password.com/de/personal
I don't think the website is the "problem" as it uses the informal "you". This seems appropriate as a way of addressing users, as Apple, for example, also uses this more informal, more personal, form.
In the iOS and iPadOS apps, the user is addressed as "you" (polite form).
I think this is more a fundamental decision about how the communication between the company and the customer should be. There is currently this difference, at least in German.
Regarding the redesign of the website, is it also accessible via „1Password.eu“?

Thank you for the clarification, I've passed along your feedback regarding the German translation to the team internally. 🙂

Yes, using this link: https://start.1password.eu/app?s=l
If you have any other questions about the redesign then you can ask our developers directly in the following thread: Experiment #4 – New interface in 1Password.com’s vault view
