1Password icon remains in Dock after login or restart [Fixed]
This is a new behaviour ?
It will only disappear from the dock after I open 1Password, unlock it and close its window
This should not be, I have the Finder's 1P menu item and the one in Safari, I do not need neitehr want to see that icon in the Dock forcing me to act on it (unlock and open and close) to make it disappear
Not usefull at all

Hello @Gilles9! 👋
Thank you for reporting the issue, this definitely doesn't look right. I can reproduce this behaviour myself and I've filed an internal work item to have our developers look into this further.
While I can't provide an ETA on when this will be fixed, it's now on our developers list of issues to investigate. You'll see a note in our release notes when the issue is resolved.

I have the same problem. At first I thought there is something wrong with my computer so I reset 1Password, uninstall and re-install 1Passowrd. Unfortunately, nothing works.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. An issue has been filed with our development team to have them investigate this further and release a fix.
As a temporarily workaround, after you restart your Mac, you can open and then close the 1Password window in order to dismiss the icon.

Same issue here.

Thanks for the report. This is a known issue that our developers are aware of, hopefully it will be resolved in a future update soon. I'm sorry for the impact to your workflow.
For now, you can open and then close 1Password's main window after restarting your Mac to get rid of the icon.

Hi. I also noticed this behavior on my 2 Macs, a 2019 Intel iMac and on my 2 weeks old M2 MacBook Air. No further issue on my iMac but I noticed my MacBook Air has trouble shutting down or rebooting ever since the issue appeared. The computer screen turns off but it never reboots or completely shuts down and the keyboard stays illuminated. I didn't have this issue before this "bug" appeared. Both Macs are running macOS 14.4.1. 1password version is 8.10.30.

OK I can confirm the shutting down problem was due to 1Password config files as after deleting the 1Password app the issue didn't disappear, but it did after deleting all leftover files. I tried reinstalling 1Password, my MacBook shuts down and reboots as it should. But the icon issue is still there.

I'm sorry that your Mac wasn't restarting properly before you uninstalled and reinstalled 1Password. I'm not aware of any other reports of that issue but let me know if it comes back and I can investigate further.
Regarding the icon issue: an internal work item has been opened with our development them. Hopefully the issue will be fixed in a future update soon. As mentioned previously, you can open and then close 1Password's main window after restarting your Mac to get rid of the icon as a workaround for now.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Following this thread as I too have the same issue.

Same for me - glad I'm not the only one, but I had to dig a bit to find this thread :)
Same issue on both iMac M1 2021 & MacBook Pro M1 13"

I'm sorry for the issue, I've shared your report with the team. For now, you can open and then close 1Password's main window after restarting your Mac. That'll make the icon disappear from the Dock.

Usually when I login to my MacBook Pro (running Sonoma 14.4.1) I've noticed that 1PW will appear in the Dock like it's supposed to, but now it stays in the Dock unless I launch it from the Dock. It used to launch automatically and not appear in the Dock and only required me to login once a site asked for a pw. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

I just noticed that there is a dedicated thread for this issue so if a mod can move me there that would be great.

I've merged your post into an existing thread for an issue where 1Password's icon will appear in the macOS Dock and stay there when starting your Mac. This is a known issue that our developer team is currently investigating.
For the time being, you can dismiss the icon by clicking on it to open 1Password and then closing the main window. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Previously, when my Mac started up, 1Password in the dock would start (presumably to enable all the background tasks) and then exit on it's own.
Now it opens and stays open - as shown by spotlight dot still showing in dock image below many minutes after logging in:

I can manually go down there and quit the application, and this has no effect on the browser extensions etc.
So just wondering why it now starts the main application and remains open? I'm happy for it to "Start at login" as per the preferences check box, but there's no need to my knowledge for the app to remain open after starting the relevant processes.

Not sure if it is related but macOS starts with 1Password not just in the dock but is the active application in the menu bar (ie. the bolded application name next to the Apple icon) until I close it or open something else. Rather than starting with Finder next to the Apple icon.

Thank you @Dave_1P - and thanks for releasing my post into a suitable existing thread. I did search but didn’t come across this thread.
Side note:
When trying to post, the partial screenshot I included was displaying bigger than full size (hence the various edits with markdown changes to try and fix it that got the post blocked for moderation [whilst still not right as evidenced above] for some reason). Is there a way to limit embedded images in the forum to their actual size rather than them be expanded to the full post width on a given display?

Our spam/moderation software can be overzealous at times but the team and I check the queue multiple times a day and release legitimate posts as quickly as possible.
In any case, thanks again for reporting the Dock icon issue. The team hopes to release a fix as soon as possible. 🙂

Hi,
just installed version 8.10.32 (81032050)
Bug is not fixed.0 -
Our development team is currently testing a fix but it isn't available in the stable version yet. When a fix is released I'll make sure to update this thread. You can also consult our release notes to see what fixes and changes are included in each update: 1Password for Mac Releases 🙂

Hi @Kester.D_1P ,
Thank you for your reply, and to answer your question, yes, I only see 1password open in the Dock, no window open!

I have the same problem. Started about 2 updates ago.
Setting as you indicated - not in login items, both checkboxes checked in 1 password, allowed to run in background. No browser opens at login.Basically, 1Password loads in the menu bar AND the dock, though the main 1Password window doesn't open at boot.
I suspect it's a bug. Hopefully fixed in the next release.

Hello,
No one to solve this problem?

I'm sorry that you're both running into an issue where the 1Password icon appears, and doesn't disappear, in the Dock when starting your Mac. This is a known issue that our developers are currently testing a fix for. I've merged your comment into the existing thread for the issue.
Once the team has finished testing the fix, it will be released in a future update as soon as possible. 🙂
