  • Hello @tb582! 👋

Thanks for the question! When you enter an account password into the app, 1Password can only unlock the account that the password is associated with. The other account will be locked until you unlock it separately. The recommended way to use multiple accounts on the same device is to use the same account password for both accounts: How to use multiple accounts

Once both accounts are using the same account password, they'll unlock at the same time. Your account password never leaves your device and each account still has a unique Secret Key.

Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂

That’s a really weird stance from a security/password company. To have duplicate passwords between personal/work esp for the master pass!

I can understand how the advice can seem strange on the surface, 1Password is different from other services that you use for two reasons:

    1. Your account password never leaves your device. Instead 1Password uses Secure Remote Password (SRP) to authenticate your account: How Secure Remote Password protects your 1Password account
    2. Each 1Password account has a unique Secret Key: About your Secret Key

Without both your account password, and the unique Secret Key associated with a specific 1Password account, it's not possible to decrypt and access that 1Password account. Because of these reasons, it's safe to use the same account password for each of your 1Password accounts.
