Can't re-enable Touch ID after update to 8.10.36 (81036001)

Hi all!

Apparently 1Password updated itself in the background today on my machine that's running the macOS Sequoia beta. After that update I'm unable to re-enable Touch ID in the app (the checkbox checks itself for a split second, then goes off again). Touch ID worked before, coming from a non-beta-macOS and the previous 1Password beta.

Any ideas? I seem to remember this having been an issue in the past, but I could very well be wrong. :)

I'd recommend getting you into our support team and let them look at a diagnostics report. Please use the following steps to create a diagnostic report.

    1. Open 1Password.
    2. Press Command and comma (Control and comma on Windows). The 1Password Preferences/Settings will open.
    3. Select Advanced.
    4. Select Send Diagnostics.
    5. Select Reveal to locate the report in your Downloads folder.

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

Hm, this behavior is not consistent. This was happening this morning but not later in the afternoon. I guess I'll wait for it to happen again before submitting a diagnostic.

  • Sounds good @mirv

Thank you @ag_tommy, will do that in a bit.

And to add: sometimes I also get the checkbox for my Apple Watch, sometimes I don't. Same behavior though.

Quick update here: doing an Settings > Advanced > Reset 1Password was so far enough make Touch ID/Apple Watch unlock work again. Hope it sticks. :) Thank you!

  • Thanks for the update @holgr

If anything changes please let us know.

After reset 1Password in Settings, Apple Watch unlock still not working, everytime shows "You need to enter your account password before you can use Apple Watch unlock."

It might be time to get you over to the technical team and let them take a deeper dive. Can you confirm that you've enabled the feature and then entered the password? I feel certain you have done that. I just want to be sure we're on the same page. I'd go ahead and email us using support+forum@1password.com. Be sure to use the email address tied to the account in question.

I'm also seeing something similar where TouchID gets disabled after an update, but I can manually re-enable it.

  • @kop48

If you have a chance I'd recommend letting the technical team know about this and send in a diagnostics report. I think that have enough reports already but I'd hate for your to be a one off issue and you need a different resolution. If nothing else the team can let you know if a resolution is in the works. :)

    1. Open 1Password.
    2. Press Command and comma (Control and comma on Windows). The 1Password Preferences/Settings will open.
    3. Select Advanced.
    4. Select Send Diagnostics.
    5. Select Reveal to locate the report in your Downloads folder.

I'm running into Touch ID problems as well again after upgrading to macOS 15.1 Beta 1 (running 1Password 8.10.38, 81038046). Already tried the reset that worked before. I'll send a mail to support and leave the ticket here once I get it.

I'm happy that the team was able to provide a workaround for your specific situation until a permanent fix is released.
