Universal Autofill not working

Maybe I'm missing how it's supposed to work, but I've got Universal Autofill turned on, have added 1Password to Accessibility, tried both the nightly and production update channels, uninstalling and reinstalling, but I never see anything get auto typed.

I've tried it in these applications:

  • Edge
  • iTerm
  • Terminal.app
  • TextEdit
  • Notes

Is there something I'm missing? I'd expect to see the username and password typed out.

In fact, pressing "Always Allow" makes the Autofill shortcut stop working.

  • Hello @mikewhy! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. Universal AutoFill will only fill your login credentials into a username, password, or one-time password (TOTP) field which explains why you're not seeing anything filled into the note apps that you mentioned.

Regarding Terminal and iTerm, Universal AutoFill will allow you to fill your Mac administrator password for sudo prompts. Make sure that you're using iTerm 2, have created a Mac login item in 1Password, and that you've set up the additional automation permissions as detailed in our guide: Autofill your Mac login

I'm sorry that you're having trouble filling your login credentials into Edge. Are you trying to fill into a certain website's login page? If you are then can you share the address of the website so that I can take a look?

Ah, that might explain it then. I cannot share the link, but I can describe it. It's Guacamole, a browser based VNC client. I needed to login to a linux TTY in VNC that's only being rendered to a <canvas> element.

So, it accepts keyboard input if some were to be sent to it, but that's about it.

    @mikewhy

Thank you for clarifying. Can you try to fill a login into the Guacamole interface one more time and note that it fails, then I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!
