The 1Password app opens in my Dock when I need an password but doesn't close automatically

Hi all!

I'm using the Google Chrome Extension for 1Password in combination with the MacOS application. When I need to enter a password and press my shortcut to open 1Password my MacOS app opens in my Dock. I can then unlock 1Password with my fingerprint (which is awesome). But then it doesn't close again. So every time I need to unlock 1Password, the app opens in my Dock and doesn't disappears.

How can I solve this?

Thanks already for your help!

1Password Version: 8.10.36
Extension Version: 2.26.1
OS Version: MacOS Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)
Browser: Chrome

  • Hello @nickheurter! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! My initial suspicion is that you don't have the 1Password app set to run in the background so it needs to open from scratch whenever you try to unlock 1Password in the browser. Can you check the following:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click General.
    5. Make sure that "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" is enabled.

If that still doesn't work then can you tell me which shortcut you're using to open 1Password? And are you opening the extension pop-up, Quick Access, or the main 1Password app?
