Touch ID sensor is currently unavailable.

After updating my system to macOS Sequoia 15 Beta 3 (24A5289h), I am no longer able to unlock 1Password with Touch ID. It will ask me to use Touch ID to unlock 1Password, but after I use the correct finger touch on the Touch ID sensor, it shows, "Touch ID sensor is currently unavailable. You need to sign in using your account password." However, Touch ID works well for logging in and unlocking my Mac.

First, I tried following the instructions in this thread using 1Password for Mac 8.10.36 (PRODUCTION Channel). Then, I tried updating my 1Password to 8.10.38 (BETA Channel). I also tried updating my system to macOS Sequoia 15 Beta 4 (24A5298h) today. But none of them worked.

Is this a bug? Or what should I do?

I have had issues when removing into my iMac but "once at the keyboard" it seems to be "ok"...

I had the same issue, trying to unlock with touch ID, using external keyboard I got "Touch ID sensor is currently unavailable. You need to sign in using your account password." message.

Upgraded 1Password from version 8.10.40 on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 to beta 8.20.44, touch ID unlock issue is resolved and it works.

  • @misko

I'm happy that updating 1Password resolved the issue. 🙂
