Safari extension broken for me and colleague for a while now

Hi all, I'm not sure if we're the only ones, but we are getting a bit frustrated with the 1Password Safari extension. I have been using 1Password since 2007 or so and it was always a super nice solution first and foremost for my Apple devices. But recently, the integration with Safari is super unreliable.

It seems to stop working properly almost every time I want to use 1Password from a browser. As far as we know, we don't have any strange macOS configuration so it is really surprising it is an issue we are seeing on 4 Mac's. I have 2 MacBook Pro's (MBP 2017 running macOS 13 and a MBP 2023 running macOS 14), and a Mac mini (2018 running macOS 14) and my colleague has a MacBook Air (2024 running macOS 14). Every time we try to login to a website and the extension does not work, we see the 1P logo in the username field and nothing happens when you click on it.

I have found that I can get the extension to work again, by opening the Web Extension Background Content window and refreshing it with Cmd+R. Then I see a "Initializing 1Password" item in the Console log and immediately the extension springs back to life. So the problem is not with the 1Password Desktop app, since I never have to restart that one.

We do use multiple profiles and as such there is a 1Password extension active under my Personal and my Work profile.

Could it be that we face this issue, since we have a 1password.eu account? Maybe the extension does something not so reliable when it needs to connect to our business v****y.1password.eu and the personal my.1password.eu domains?

I have attached some screenshots that I faced today:

When the extension was not working and showing 1Password had to be unlocked

I opened the Web Extension Background Content for the Safari Profile I'm using and cleared it and clicked on the 1P logo a few times:

Then I Cmd+R the window:

And then I could use it again properly.

1Password Version: 8.10.36
Extension Version: 2.26.1
OS Version: 14.6
Browser: Safari

  • Hello @jorik! 👋

I'm sorry that the Safari extension is running into issues for you and your colleague. There are a few issues that our development team is working on, especially surrounding profiles in Safari. The next time that the issue occurs, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from 1Password in your browser:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (browser extension)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com. Please use the email address associated with your 1Password account.

    With your email please include:

    Hi @Dave_1P,

Thanks for the quick response. I was just running into the issue, but I'm unable to follow the "Sending Diagnostics Reports" instructions while the extension is not working. Only after reloading the extension, I can get to the 1Password extension settings to save the diagnostics report. I did that and sent it. Hopefully it contains the issue from before reloading it?
