I've just recently noticed that Chrome freezes and becomes intermittently non-responsive to the mouse/keyboard. Disabling the 1Password Chrome extension seems to fix the issue. Has anyone else noticed this?

1Password Version: 8.10.38
Extension Version: 2.26.1
OS Version: macOS 14.5
Browser: Chrome

  • Hello @WiredPuppy! 👋

I'm sorry that Chrome stops responding if 1Password is enabled. I'm running the same version of 1Password that you are and I'm not seeing an issue with Chrome. As a start, can you update to macOS 14.6.1 just in case that helps: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

If you still see the issue after updating then can you tell me the following:

    1. Does the issue occur on a particular website? Or does it appear randomly on all sorts of websites?
    2. What version of Chrome are you running?

I look forward to hearing from you.

1Password application won't quit. When I open a browser with the extension installed and active, 1Password grabs focus and I cannot interact with the browser. I click, for instance, on the Safari window, and the title bar flashes "Safari" until reverting to "1Password" and everything grays out again.

This happens on all 3 browsers I have installed: Safari, Firefox, and Brave. All browsers are up to date as of this posting.

    Extension Version: 2.27.1
    OS Version: 14.6.1
    Browser: Safari, Firefox, & Brave

I should also have noted that if I open the full 1P application and quit, it relaunches on its own within a few seconds. Same if I click on the menu bar icon and quit from there.

I'm running into this too after updating 1Password on Mac to 8.10.39. 1Password app seems to steal focus whenever I'm in Chrome and click anything. I see 1Password takeover the Mac menu bar. It happens on all sites in Chrome. When I disable the 1P extension it stops happening. I tried reinstalling the extension but the same issue persists.

    Extension Version: 2.27.1
    OS Version: macOS 14.16.1
    Browser: Chrome 127.0.6533.100

Uninstalled browser extensions and restarted system, seems okay for now.

Uninstalling the extension, restarting Chrome, and installing the beta extension again seems to have fixed it for me.

I'm sorry that 1Password was taking focus from your browser. This is a known issue with the latest version of 1Password that our developers are currently working to resolve and involves the connection between the desktop app and 1Password in the browser. I'm happy that you were able to resolve the issue.

For anyone else running into the issue, you should be able to get things working by using the following steps (choose the steps that are appropriate for your setup):

Option 1: Make sure that you're signed into the 1Password app and then reset app integration

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Make sure that you are signed into the app: How to add another 1Password account to the apps and browser extension
    3. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    4. Click Settings.
    5. Click Browser.
    6. Toggle the "Connect with 1Password in the browser" setting.

Option 2: Turn off app integration if the first workaround doesn't work

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
    3. Click General.
    4. Turn off "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app".

Let me know if you still see the issue after following these steps.

I faced same issue, and I found that there are lots of users with same situation, please check the reviews in Chrome WebStore: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/1password-–-password-mana/aeblfdkhhhdcdjpifhhbdiojplfjncoa/reviews

Option 2 seems to have fixed for me.

    1Password Version: 8.10.40
    Extension Version: 2.27.1
    OS Version: macOS 14.5
    Browser: Chrome 127.0.6533.120

I'm sorry that you ran into the same issue. Our developers are working on a coding a fix and hope to release it as soon as possible.

Thank you for letting us know that Option 2 gives you a workaround for now.
