Why is the 1Password extension in Safari such a pain when creating a new logins

Since the transition to 1Password 8 I have been continuously & extremely frustrated with the Safari extension. Today I was at a website where I needed to create a new login and I can not figure out how to get the flipping extension to create a new password except to leave Safari and open the macOS app, create the login and then copy the password from it to paste into the window. Without a doubt this could be the new macOS with its new content blockers, it could also be other add blocking extensions in Safari. But the extension only works for me maybe 25% of the time and very rarely is the experience good. I was thinking that perhaps some settings were changed when Apple released macOS 15 but I can't find a clear and concise description of how to set up macOS on the 1Password site. Instead there are links to other websites which are of no value when I can't easily refer to the content I was reading before I left the 1Password website. Also while this post is specific to macOS, the iOS and iPadOS versions have a similar problem.
The changes that came with v8 of 1PW were a tough pill to swallow. I am about to start exploring other password managers.

Also, forcing users to approve of your cookie policies when they come to the website and not allowing them to intentionally opt-in or opt-out of tracking and 3rd party sharing is ludicrous in this day & age. Especially when the pop-up doesn't go away until the user agrees. You could simply put a banner at the bottom of the page that disappears first time I leave the page.

1Password Version: 8.10.44
Extension Version: 8.10.46.34
OS Version: 15
Browser: Safari

  • Hello @gct3o! 👋

I'm sorry that 1Password for Safari isn't working correctly on your Mac, the behaviour that you've described definitely isn't right. You wrote:

When you click on the password field on a registration page you should see a password suggestion from 1Password:

It sounds like this password suggestion didn't appear. Did you see 1Password's icon after clicking in the password field? Or was that missing as well? Can you share a link to the webpage where you ran into this issue so that I can investigate further?

The team has recently made some updates to the prompt and you should see a button to reject non-essential cookies:

Or you can click on "Manage Settings" for a more granular options. Let me know if I misunderstood the issue. 🙂
