Safari on Mac – 1p add-on not working anymore
When I click the 1password add-on in the safari browser, nothing happens, it does not open.
When I open the 1p for mac app, go to settings > browser, click "add browser", select "Safari.app", I get this error:
"That application didn't work
The selected application was signed in an unsupported way or may be missing a required identifier."
But it's the standard, official Safari 18.0 for macOS 15.0.
What I tried:
- Completely uninstalled 1password for safari and reinstalled
- Restarted Mac
- enabled/disabled 1password add-on in browser
Any idea what could be wrong here? I'm not sure when it broke, I do not use safari very often, normally I use firefox. On Firefox and Chrome, no issue, the 1password add-on works fine.
1Password Version: 8.10.46
Extension Version: 8.10.46
OS Version: macOS 15.0
Browser: Safari

Hello @hobbes444! 👋
I'm sorry that you're running into trouble with 1Password for Safari. The "Connect to additional browsers" feature in the desktop app is for unsupported browsers that you'd like to use with 1Password. Safari is already a supported browser so you won't need to add it there.
When I click the 1password add-on in the safari browser, nothing happens, it does not open.
So that I can better understand the situation can you tell me the following:
- Is 1Password not opening both when you clicking on the 1Password icon in a password field on a webpage and when you click on the icon in Safari's toolbar?
- Are you using multiple profiles in Safari?
- Are you using Lockdown mode on your Mac?
I look forward to hearing from you.

- 1Password is not opening when clicking on the 1password icon in Safari's toolbar. There are no 1password icon in password fields.
- I am using a single profile in Safari
- I am using Lockdown mode on my Mac
I bet it's 3/ ;)

Thank you for the reply. This is a similar situation to your thread relating to 1Password on iOS, 1Password for Safari on the Mac also isn't supported when using Lockdown Mode. Lockdown Mode disables certain features of the Safari browser that 1Password's extension requires in order to function.
To use 1Password in Safari you'll need to turn off lockdown mode. Alternatively, if you'd like to keep Lockdown Mode enabled, you can use Universal AutoFill to fill your login information from 1Password into Safari on your Mac: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac
