Without changing any setting all my SECURE NOTES displayed on my desktop are condensed. ALL squeezed together & Window note area reduced.
On my phone the display is perfect but NOT on my desktop.
Can you please help ?

Now I see that if I hit EDIT it will display everything on the full secure note.
That is the Only way to display the full contents of the secure note on my desktop.
Any setting to have it show the entire full secure note without having to hit Edit like it was previously ?

Has anyone noticed that formatting no longer works in the Windows App? The formatting is there, when you are in edit mode it's fine but if you are in normal viewing mode, the formatting is ignored.

Is it just me? BTW, it seems fine in the iPad and iOS apps.

    Hello @Lexxx and @PsychoDeli! 👋

I'm sorry that notes aren't being rendered properly in the latest version of the 1Password for Windows desktop app. I've been able to reproduce the issue using my own device when markdown formatting is turned off and I've filed an internal work item with our development team so that they can get this fixed.

For the time being the two best workarounds are:

    1. Temporarily, turn on markdown formatting in the desktop app: 1Password > click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar > Settings > General > Turn on "Format Secure Notes using Markdown".
    2. If you have items that don't play well with markdown then, for now, you can use the 1Password.com web app to view those items. The web app doesn't currently support markdown formatting and is not affected by the issue. You can access the web app by logging in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com (in the browser, not the app).

My issue is resolved using “format secure notes using markdown”

    Thank you!

This issue seems fine on my iPhone but is on my Desktop using WINDOWS NOT MAC DESKTOP 1

  • @PsychoDeli

I'm happy that the workaround helps for now.

    @Lexxx

I've corrected "Mac" to "Windows" in my post above. Our developers are aware that this is an issue in the latest update to 1Password for Windows and are working on a fix. For now, I suggest using one of the workarounds in my previous comment. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for fixing the purple highlight in the secure notes.

However, now I can see 2 (probably new) major problems with markdown disabled.
(uncheck "General -> Format secure notes using markdown")

    1. New line is not preserved in normal mode, everything appear in a single line.
    2. Cannot select and copy text in normal mode.

In edit mode, these problems does not appear, please see the attached GIF.

I and everyone in my organization (currently about 70 people) are also having the same issue with no line breaks and white space (tabs) when Markdown is not selected. White space is also not shown with Markdown checked, so it is breaking a lot of the standard formatting we are using for secure notes. The version is 8.10.50...I also tried the beta 8.10.52-22, and the same problem persists.

We do not use Markdown because there are cases where a password in a secure note uses multiple *. As an example, if you have password123456, it will be presented as password123456, with 123 in italics...which doesn't work. (not that we EVER use a password like that, just as an example)

Oh, looks like the comment section uses markdown, heh, the first was password (asterisk) 123 (asterisk) 456

  • @srumelhart

Thank you for the report and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We're currently testing a fix for the issue in the latest nightly version of 1Password. If testing goes well there then the fix will be added to the beta and then the stable version as soon as possible.

The Secure Note item (and field) isn't really designed for passwords, is there a reason why you don't save those passwords in a password field by adding a custom field to the item in question? You can read more about custom fields here: Customize your 1Password items

The reason is because we have one secure note for an entire site. We do work as a managed services provider for solar and wind generation sites. There are hundreds of devices between firewalls, switches, servers, and other substation OT equipment, and it's easier to have it all in a secure note. Also, there are descriptions and notes on how to connect to the various devices and information about things to be aware of, such as some devices need to be restarted in a certain order, services on servers that need to be running after Windows Updates, etc. There isn't really a good fit to have each device with it's own custom field. We may consider custom fields at some point, but each site has it's own idiosyncrasies and the secure note with it's free form capability works well for us at the moment.

By the way, we really enjoy using 1Password...I started using it for our company 6 years ago for a small team, and now we are rolling out in phases for all 240+ in our company.

  • @srumelhart

Thank you for sharing your use case. Hopefully the fix graduates from the nightly version to the beta/stable version soon.

I'm glad to hear that you and your team are enjoying 1Password. 💙

So glad this is going to be fixed. We disable Markdown in notes since it messes with any included passwords/keys that have symbols. Was tiring having to edit a note to copy something from it. Thanks for the quick turn around!

This is still somewhat broken. So the latest beta fixed the linefeed problem, but you can't select and copy anything from the Secure Note without editing it. PLEASE fix this - we use this constantly.

Just saw the note above about use cases. We use Secure Notes as an MSP as well for clients to make notes about rarely used passwords and other things. We don't want 30 individual login records for a client. Impossible to organize easily. We open a secure note and it's all there for each client. I think you'll find a lot of people do this.

  • @ITXinNC

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. A fix for an issue where a note can't be selected and copied from the 1Password app when markdown is turned off is currently being tested in the nightly version of 1Password. Once testing is complete the fix will be promoted to the beta and then the stable version as well.

Good to know this is hopefully finally being fixed after a couple of weeks of having to open the edit dialog each time.

In the future –as many users have mentioned on these forums before– a more preferable better solution would be to have a per-entry Markdown button. Then some notes could show using MD, others without, depending on usage.
