Why doesn't 1Password appear as an option? Is this an iOS bug or a Shake Shack bug?

1Password Version: 8.10.50
Extension Version: N/A
OS Version: iOS 18.1
Browser: Shake Shack

  • Hi there @invalidptr

With two-page sign-in forms, such as this one, Google, Amazon, and others, it's usually the case that iOS doesn't offer you the "πŸ”‘ Passwords" on the email address or username field, since it's typically expecting to see two fields – one for username and one for password. Without both, it treats the email address field exactly as it would for something like signing up for a newsletter.

Because 1Password can't do anything to influence the behaviour of iOS's Password AutoFill system, I can suggest a workaround. In iOS, you can set up "text replacement" shortcuts which take an abbreviation that you choose, such as .em or something like that, and replace it with the text of your choice.

That way, when you encounter a two-page sign-in form like this one, you can enter whatever abbreviation you choose to enter your email address, then you'll be able to autofill on the password page using the "πŸ”‘ Passwords" button on the keyboard.

If you're using iOS 18, you can also try double-tapping the username field itself, like when you use Copy or Paste, and tap AutoFill > Passwords, which will open the 1Password pop-up. iOS won't tell 1Password "where" it is, so you won't see suggestions, but you'll be able to look for the appropriate item from the list. You can tap the (β€’β€’β€’)Β three-dot menu next to a field to be able to copy its contents and paste it on the page if you prefer.

    Hope that helps! :)

The plot thickens. I signed out of my account to test your recommendations. And before I could try anything, I noticed that it worked this time... the password key icon and the 1Password suggestion shows up! It would seem this an iOS bug I should file.

AutoFill > (in this working scenario) only gave me Contact or Scan Text. Maybe if I was in the original scenario I would have seen Passwords?

I'm glad that iOS AutoFill provided a login suggestion from 1Password above the keyboard this time around. πŸ™‚

I can reproduce this issue whenever an app opens a web page inside of its in-app browser. It looks like iOS isn't providing the AutoFill > Passwords option in certain places. I recommend reporting the issue to Apple so that they can investigate this further since that option is controlled by iOS itself and not 1Password.
