Filtering within vault can be better in 1P8

Our team has been using 1Password for years now. 1P8 have been out for some time, but we all feel that browsing is a great regression from 1P7.

We are a IT consultancy firm that specialize in Microsoft SharePoint and have many clients. We have one vault per client. Because of our niche, the items in each vault is very similar. It has a long list of servers, logins to service accounts, admin accounts and more.

  1. When clicking the search box, when in a vault, the search is still global. Not very useful since our items cross vaults have similar names.
  2. When clicking a tag, while in a vault, you will see all items cross vaults. This makes tags like Test and Production useless. In 1P7, it was super easy to open a client vault, select the Production tag and group the result by item type and you got a very nice overview of "Test environment for this client". It was brilliant. Everyone loved it.

Because of these changes, we have to resort to overly verbose names on items with multiple prefixes (e.g. "Client Acme Incorporated - Production - Service account) which makes the vault item list very hard to read. Tags are not used any more because of the new experience that makes them useless.

I have asked about these problems multiple times on different channels since 1P8 was released and never gotten a sincere answer. Is this even on the 1Password team's radar?

  • Hello @Gabriel Smoljár! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! With 1Password 8, our team has built a feature specifically for the use case that you've outlined called collections:

Collections allow you to specify which vaults and items you see and search so that you can exclude the vaults you don't need during your regular day. Have you given this feature a try yet? 🙂

    Hello @Dave_1P,

I do not think the custom collections work for us. As you say, they allow you to "exclude the vaults you don't need during your regular day".

The thing is, we are a small team managing many more clients. After a project, we still have support and maintenance for that client. Thus, we need access to all vaults all the time. We can't say that a given person will be focusing on a given client for some time.

Thank you for the feedback. I've let our Product team know that you'd like to see more options when it comes to scoping the items that you see to a particular vault and tag. I appreciate you taking the time to share your use case.
