can bring you bring back some of 1p7 mini options
So I am hoping 1Password will take stronger focus on user facing improvements. It seems like you can read through alot of the questions on the community board. And reading the release notes, which I do for the betas. Not very many of them seem to be addressed.
Analytics be damned. I have to guess you are users of your own software. I have to imagine you could see the benefits in some the requests. Native Autofill. what 2 years going on 3? Edit the pinned window like 1P7. App linking improvements. Customize keyboard shortcuts for actions (copy username, password...or other menu fields)?
I switched back to 1Password a few years ago and there is ton to like about it. But the user facing side really seems like has taken a backseat to the enterprise push. Which is great, but the reason people like me recommend it to businesses. It has a great end user experience. This means people will use it.
So this turned into a rant, but I recently gave in and switched back to v7. why? I miss the list view and drag and drop hide/reshow. I tried to recreate that with this view:
however, keyboard shortcut for showing this window. turns out isn't reliable. tried 3 different hotkey combos. 3 different macs. sometimes it works, sometimes not.🤷♂️ annoying, frustrating, and I just didn't want to spend anymore time trying to figure it out. 1P7 it works flawlessly so here I am back at v7.
Also in 1P7 normally the search field would be focused.
Can that be added as user setting? Focus search field when using hotkey in 1P8.
Also if you drag and drop the window hides. However, does not re-appear like 1P7. It would not matter much but the hotkey won't reshow the window. This would be nice to have as an option.
Another option would be in quick access offer a view like above or call it a "classic view".
I really like 1Password. I. just really want some user facing improvements to be the focus.

Completely agree with @snowy - Last year a whole bunch of long time 1P users wrote extensively in these forums about the mess that 1P8 brought by losing all the features of 1P7 mini.
I recently upgraded to a new MacBook and thought I'd install 1P8 to see if the team had listened to any of the feedback - but they haven't at all - So I also had to uninstall 8 and go back to 7 - which is just crazy - and works flawlessly.
1p8 takes at least 3 clicks to do what you could do in 1 on 1P7... Given that you have a 'beta' community and request user feedback - why don't you listen to it?

Hello @snowy! 👋
Thank you for the feedback. The team is always listening to customer feedback across several different platforms including the forum, email support, social media, user studies, and more. You can see some of the recent usability improvements based on feedback that we've received announced on our blog:
- 1Password Update October 2024: Improved Product Security & Features
- Usability Digest May 2024: Autosave, Sharing, and Sign-in Experience — 1Password Community
Native Autofill. what 2 years going on 3? Edit the pinned window like 1P7. App linking improvements.
I see that I've previously forwarded your requests for these items to our product team and I'll let them know that you're still eager to see these features be introduced.

I was able to reproduce this issue on one of my Macs but it went away after I restarted. Can you let me know if restarting your Mac gets things working again? Are you able to share which keyboard shortcuts you've tried?

1Password 8 should re-appear after you drag and drop a field into another app. I've done some testing and it looks like the app isn't properly showing up again after dragging and dropping into some apps but not others. For example, if I drag and drop into TextEdit then the 1Password window reappears but it doesn't when I drag and drop into Chrome. Can you tell me which apps you're dragging and dropping into when the issue occurs?

I can definitely pass this feedback along to the team. Can you tell me what specific action you're trying to do in 1Password 8 that requires more effort on your end than it did in 1Password 7?

I'd really suggest you install 1P7 and use the 1P7 Mini vs the 'new' v8.
If you do, you'll see that the 1p7 Mini was extremely convenient for searching and retrieving information from multiple fields.. 1P7 mini is out of the way, properly sized, provides a convenient list of all the things you're searching for and you can quickly pin the window to make it static and grab a bunch of information from it.
So, in 1P7 all I have to do is:
- click in the menu bar, search and click to copy.
That's it. When I have a bunch of server information that's not just a login, it makes it extremely convenient as you can grab multiple entries v quickly. Plus importantly it's position off at the top right of the screen out of the way... Also, the list view is clear and well thought out - and it can be clicked through easily if you have multiple results.
In 1P8 - there's really no point the menu item being in the menu bar as it doesn't do anything. To get data from an item in 1P8, you have to:
Keyboard shortcut to get the Quick access
Search item
Short-cut key cmd+O to open the item
The window opens too small and right in the middle of the screen blocking everything you're doing
You have to resize the window to get the information you need (vs 1P7 Mini - which gave you everything you needed instantly)
You then have to move the 1P8 window to the right hand corner so you can see what you're doing
And only then can you copy the data you need.Whilst you are doing all that - you have lost the list of search results - whereas in 1P7 mini - you had ALL your search results still there and as you click through the results, you can see the detail on the right hand side.
There was a whole bunch of us last year who tried emphasise that 1p8 was a massive retrograde step in quickly accessing your items, and to be honest, if 1P7 wasn't still available I would have stopped my subscription and moved elsewhere. I have both a business and a family account and none of us have upgraded to 1P8 because of the interface.

@Dave_1P
I guess I just don't understand why the 1P7 Mini interface changed - it already did everything you needed. At the very least I feel the team need to bring back the mini icon and search engine in the menu bar. At least then the 1P8 menu bar icon would have a reason to exist - i.e. it would serve a purpose for being there as it would again have some functionality.
Maybe have an option in the prefs to use either the mini, or the 'central spotlight' version of 1P8...?
I've had 1P since v3... but I won't be continuing the subscription once 7 dies a death and I imagine there's a whole load of others out there who feel the same way as @snowy and I who are still sitting on 7 and haven't upgraded because of this. I know my wife's team at work have also stayed on 7 because there were so many complaints about v8.

1Password 8 should re-appear after you drag and drop a field into another app.
This one drives me crazy.

I haven’t had a chance to confirm the specific situations. But yeah the mini in v7 is a vastly superior experience when showing a list view on the left and details on the right. And you can drag it seamlessly. And edit a pinned entry. It’s all the little things that when I hit them while using v8 I go back to v7. I have to imagine there is data on how many people still v7 connected.
Also I was just at conference, which I won’t name. But I saw 3 different presenters using 1password. Super cool. Here is the kicker … all of them were using v7 and the mini window.
