Can 1Password 4 for Mac sync to 1Password for Windows via DropBox?

Hi --

I finally got a Mac laptop and just purchased 1Password 4 for Mac and have been trying to get it to sync with my Windows PC. If I create a new entry in 1Password 4 for Mac, it does not show up in the windows version, and vice versa. I think this may be because I installed the Windows version quite a while ago but wasn't using it.

  • My Windows 1Password has an existing vault, with an existing master key.
  • My Windows 1Password vault is stored in a subdirectory on DropBox, e.g. ~/DropBox/myfiles/commonsettings/1Password.agilekeychain
  • When I installed 1Password 4 on my new Mac, I loaded in my LastPass files into a new vault, after which I turned on DropBox sync.
  • The new 1Password 4 app on my Mac has been configured to sync to Dropbox, but it doesn't show me where it stores its information
  • I can find a single 1Password.agilekeychain directory in my DropBox folder, which appears to be for the old Windows vault.
  • I don't see a "Sync" option in the windows app so I'm not actually sure if it is synching vs just storing data in DropBox.
  • I can't use the "Choose Another" button in the Windows general preferences pane because I can't find the 1Password vault on DropBox that the Mac version appears to be using.
  • I've read this and have confirmed that I do not see a 1Password.agilekeychain directory in my DropBox root (i.e. AFAICT 1Password 4 did not create a new directory there when I turned on synching).
  • I've also confirmed that there is no 1Password.agilekeychain directory in ~DropBox/Apps/

Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Ramon

  • Hi Ramon,

It should tell you in the Sync area. Open the main 1Password app, go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Sync. Can you tell me what you see there or provide a screenshot for us?

Here's a screenshot on my Mac showing the path to my data file:
