Saving a Cpanel login

Hi there,

I can't seem to get 1password for Windows to save a Cpanel login. I had a look at http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/9980/cpanel-in-chrome but that didn't help. It is an HTTP Auth prompt that appears.

URL is http://cpanel.miguelitoslittlegreencar.com.

Any ideas?

I can't seem to get 1Password for Windows to save a Cpanel login

Here's what I did:

1. Launch Safari (or Chrome)
2. Navigate to http://cpanel.miguelitoslittlegreencar.com
3. Enter a (bogus) username and password
4. Click on "Log in".

Result: 1Password does prompt the "auto-window", hereby allowing me to save a new login.

A couple of questions:

1. What web browser are you running?
2. Are you sure the 1Password extension is installed?

Sorry about the delay in replying.

I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome on Windows 8. The 1Password extension is definitely installed (I use it for many other sites). And I've tried this with other Cpanel logins now and the 1Password extension does not get triggered.

Ideas?

1. Launch Chrome
2. Navigate to http://cpanel.miguelitoslittlegreencar.com
3. Enter your username and password
4. Do NOT click on "Log in"
5. Click on the 1Password button
6. Unlock, then click on the + in the upper-right corner

From here, you can save a new Login.

I just tried that but clicking the + in 1Password doesn't do anything in this case. Any other ideas?

I also just tried doing this in the latest version of Firefox, but I can't click the 1Password button when Cpanel's "authentication required" window is open.

Hi, @frosty.

In the main 1Password program, click the +Login tool.

Create a new Login item with any name you like, your username and password, and the full URL of that web site:

Click the OK button to save your Login item; then visit the site again in your browser.

Back in the main 1Password program, select your new Login item, and click the Auto-Type tool (above the list area, next to the Find tool).

1Password will fill your saved credentials in the cPanel window; then just click the OK button to submit the form.

(The Auto-Type tool also works in the cPanel window that appears if you dismiss the Authentication Required window.)

Sorry about the delay in replying. I don't have the Windows program, only the iOS app and Chrome extension. Is there a way to do this on the iOS app or (preferably) Chrome extension?

I just went through the answers I've received here. When I open the Chrome extension (latest version of Chrome on Windows 8.1) the plus-sign button doesn't do anything. What am I overlooking? Shouldn't that do something?

I don't have the Windows program

If you want to save new Logins on Windows, then you'll need the 1Password for Windows program.

@frosty, the browser extensions do just that: they extend the function of 1Password to the browsers. Without 1Password, there's no function to extend (just as there would be nowhere to extend the function to if you didn't have any browsers installed).

I hope that makes sense.

Just getting back to this. I've purchased 1Password for Windows now and created a new login as detailed above.

When I visit the website using 1Password, nothing happens when the "Authentication Required" window appears. If I cancel that window, only then does 1Password auto-fill the browser fields that appear next.

Have I set something up improperly? Is there not some way for 1Password to complete the fields in the "Authentication Required" window expects?

@frosty I'm afraid 1Password is incompatible with HTTP authentication windows. However, here's a nice workaround:

1. Open Chrome
2. Navigate to http://cpanel.miguelitoslittlegreencar.com
3. Open 1Password
4. Locate the associated Login item
5. Press the Auto-Type toolbar button in the upper-right corner
6. Press OK

It took two tries until that worked -- definitely not as convenient as logging in to other websites using 1Password.

Is there something inherent in HTTP authentication windows that means that 1Password will never work with them or is that something that's being worked on?
