4 Features Request
Hi,
Until today I've always wrote you by email to suggest you new features, bugs or improvements. But it was before, now I discovered your forums and first I would like to tell you that they're very pretty, perfect design like 1Password :).
Today I've 4 things to request to you :
1 : I think it will be a good feature if users could customize the per-default template for each categorie like Apple permits it in AddressBook.app's settings. I imagine a column at the left to choose the categorie and a second column at the right where the per-default template appear and we would have the opportunity to customize it.
2 - Is it possible to 1Password to detect if we write a URL to make it dynamic ? So when we write "http://...." the text will be transformed automatically in a URL. As you do for the Company Website field in a Software Licence template. (And as the forum does ;) ).
3 - All the "email" type fields (see feature 4) should be dynamic. Then if we click on an email in an "email" field we would be redirected to our default mail client with a new email (each email field should be an mailto:email@exemple.com link).
4 - To finish I think you should consider the ability to have a larger range of fields type to add. Presently we can define a field as text or password. I think it will be better if we could also choose between "textarea" (I hope you understand what I mean), email and URL. And of course the feature 2 & 3 will be available if we choose "email" or "URL" for the field type.
I hope my english is good enough to be understood ^^.
Let me know if you need more explanations.
I hope you will study carefully my requests.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best Regards,
Thibault

Thank you for these detailed suggestions, Thibault ( @Tibimac ). And we appreciate your kind words for 1Password and our forum, too. :)
We've also received your email with the same suggestions and I'll just reply about them here.
Custom templates/categories are oft-requested; I'll add your "vote". Here's something you can currently do to create "template" items:
- Create a new item or Duplicate an existing one
- Add/remove fields/values of your choosing (within supported limits)
- Give it an informative title, e.g. Software Licence Template and save
Creating a Smart Folder with criteria like Title ends with Template or Tag is Template (if you tag those items with Template) can be helpful for keeping track of those items from different categories.
To use the template item just Duplicate it and make any changes. Really, any item can be used as a template for some other one. :)
Where specifically would you like that type of dynamic URL to be supported? Just with custom field values and/or in other places?
You'd also want the option to copy an email address, not just process it with a mailto: handler? Currently email addresses as values are treated like a Text type that can only be copied. And an "email" field label doesn't change its type, e.g.:
We've got a request filed for supporting more custom field types like email and URL; I'm adding your interest in this to it. Would 2. and 3. above be covered by that or is there more? How would a Textarea type be different than Text?
I totally understand your English. Just want to make sure I also understand exactly what you're suggesting so any feature requests I file are accurate. :)
Thanks in advance for additional explanation and clarification. I look forward to hearing from you again soon about this!

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your answer and specifically for your email that made me laugh (however Monique is an has-been first name ^^).
Then in order to answer your questions;
2 - I would like the type of dynamic URL to be supported in all per-default "url" type fields (like in" Software Company Website", "Login website") and for all the "Link" type custom fields.
3 - Yes I know that for software licence we have a "support email" field where sometimes we can only put a link to company's support website (the is not always a support email) but I think it's a great exemple of what I would like :
- If we put a "xxxxxxxx.xx", text should be transformed as a
mailto:xxxx@xxxx.xx
link - If we put a "http://xxxx.xxx.xx" or "www.xxx.xx" text should be transformed as a
href="http://xxx.xxx.xxx"
link.
I take html exemple to explain its more simple and I think you understand.
The regex is our friend for this :-).4 - Presently just the email and link fields you've choose in code are dynamics, the 2. and 3. are to request that a field to become a "dynamic link" in a dynamically way .The 4. is to request the ability to have a larger range of custom field type. Presently if I add a custom field I can only chose between "text" or "password". I wish I could choose between "text", "notes" (like "notes" in "software licence"), "password", "email" or "link" where email and link will be dynamic (see 2. and 3.) And we can imagine that email field isn't restricted to an email, we can imagine that I put a link in an email field and like it's dynamic I get the right link (see exemple in 3.). The same thing for link field.
Points 2., 3. and 4. are linked.
Text type is a single line (NSTextField), textarea (notes) is a multiple lines text (~NSTextView).
I hope you understand 'cause it's not easy to explain something as complicated and precise.
Regards, Thibault :)

Thanks for the followup, Thibault ( @Tibimac ).
Now I'm going to feel even older every time I think of Monique. :)
This is a bit out of order:
I would like the type of dynamic URL to be supported in all per-default "url" type fields (like in" Software Company Website", "Login website") and for all the "Link" type custom fields.
Changing the field type for built-in fields isn't currently supported, but you can select any available custom type for any custom field.
Presently if I add a custom field I can only chose between "text" or "password".
Email and URL types for custom fields are already available in 1Password for iOS and planned for a future update in the Mac version.
Some of the built-in fields for the Mac app already have a URL type, e.g.:
And an Email type for the iOS app, e.g.:
Yes I know that for software licence we have a "support email" field where sometimes we can only put a link to company's support website (the is not always a support email) but I think it's a great exemple of what I would like: …
Creating a custom "support email" field with an Email or URL type (on IOS, for now) seems like it would accomplish that.
I wish I could choose between "text", "notes" (like "notes" in "software licence"), "password", "email" or "link" where email and link will be dynamic (see 2. and 3.)
Nearly all of those custom types are, or will be, available for custom fields. A multi-line Notes type is missing; I've filed a request for that.
And we can imagine that email field isn't restricted to an email, we can imagine that I put a link in an email field and like it's dynamic I get the right link (see exemple in 3.). The same thing for link field.
…
I hope you understand 'cause it's not easy to explain something as complicated and precise.
There are cases when it would be useful to change the field type for built-in fields, but using custom fields/types/sections (especially with more types added) can work quite well.
Does that make sense or help at all? :)

Hi Scott ( @sjk ) sorry for the delay. I know all this things about iOS version but there I don't talk about 1Password on iOS but 1Password for Mac and my post was to say that I hope the features mentioned will be on 1Password for Mac (even if some of them are already on iOS). The difference between iOS version and Mac version is a little disturbing sometimes.
Thank for the consideration about my features request.Have a nice day.

Hi Thibault ( @Tibimac ),
I thought it might be helpful to compare your suggestions with what's currently in the iOS version that is also intended for the Mac version, e.g.:
Email and URL types for custom fields are already available in 1Password for iOS and planned for a future update in the Mac version.
:)
Enjoy your day, too!
