Multiple vaults in 1Password for Windows
Hi There,
I have been using 1Password for a while now on a MacBook pro. In our company we have set it up to work with 2 vaults and it worked fine. Now I switched to a Windows 8.1 system and want to use the same 2 vault as I do on the MacBook pro.
For some reason I can only use my personal vault. When I want to switch to the companies vault and I am asked to enter the password it give an error.
On the Macbook pro I use my personal password to unlock the company 1Password vault.
Are multiple vault supported in 1Password For Windows?
If so how?

On Mac, you can unlock your secondary vault with the primary vault master password. On Windows, you'll need your secondary vault master password.
In summary: on Mac, you unlock vault A and vault B with master password A. on Windows, you unlock vault A with master password A and vault B with master password B.

In the current release version of 1Password for Windows, there is no concept of primary and secondary vaults. They're all primary (standalone) vaults, so—as @svondutch states above—you'll need to enter the master password for any vault you want to open.
You can use the File > Open 1Password Data Folder command to switch between them. Here are a couple of important things to remember as you use multiple vaults with 1Password 1 for Windows:
The extensions included in the current version of 1Password for Windows will always save new Login items to whatever 1Password data folder was most recently opened in the main 1Password program, so you'll want to keep that in mind as you switch between them, to make sure Login items get saved to the correct 1Password data folder.
The 1Password app on a mobile device will always sync with whatever 1Password data folder in your Dropbox account was most recently opened by the main 1Password program on your PC, so be sure to open and unlock the correct 1Password data folder on your PC before you launch 1Password on your mobile device, triggering a Dropbox sync; otherwise, the mobile app will merge items from your 1Password data folders, and that merged data will be sync'ed back to your PCs...a potential mess.
Note that 1Password 4 for Windows, currently in beta development, will include vault handling that feels more like the one on the Mac. It will also include extensions that provide more robust and convenient support for switching among multiple vaults. Hopefully its okay to tag onto this thread as it is information that I am looking for. I believe it won't be possible until 1password 4 for Windows is released or if I utilize the beta version. But it sounds like, from threads I've read, that once 1Password 4 for Windows is out it will support multiple vaults like the current Mac version.
What I am looking to do so that I have the correct answer on which version for the license to buy, single or family.. My leaning is the family license, but I wanted to make sure that was correct and that it was possible before I purchase the license.
Multiple iOS devices that I own using the same apple login id. My partner uses the iPad for apps, etc.
We share a set of common web sites that we both need to be able to log in to. ie banking, ebay, paypal, etc.
I have more sites that I use that partner does not.I want to set up 1Password with my vault to have all my sites in it to manage the passwords. Sync the vault to Dropbox so that my desktop computer 1Password app and my iPhone 1Password app read/write the same data
I want to set up a secondary vault that would contain our shared log in sites. I want this vault to be synced to Dropbox as well in my Dropbox account. Shared this folder to partner. Partner uses 1Password app on iPad to view this vault to read/write sites as necessary. Also partner uses 1Password app on windows to do the same.
For license, I assume I would need family license since its two computers and two people that would access 1Password for Windows on each individual computer.
On the iPad that partner uses, select the shared vault in dropbox for it to open? Partner does not need access to my primary vault. The reason I want to make sure is that the same apple id downloaded the 1password iOS app on each iOS device. As long as I point the iPad to the secondary shared vault, it should work?
Thank you for the information.

To be clear, 1Password for Windows has always handled multiple vaults. It's simply the idea of primary and secondary vaults, where one master password unlocks them all, that is missing at this time. As mentioned earlier, we expect that to change during the beta development of 1Password 4 for Windows.
In the situation you describe, you could set up three 1Password data folders: your.agilekeychain, your-partner.agileychain, and shared.agilekeychain.
You'd store all three in Dropbox. If you and your partner use the same Dropbox account, you'd both have access to all three 1Password data folders, but you could open only the ones for which you knew the master password. If you and your partner have separate Dropbox accounts, you'd use Dropbox's "share folder" feature to share the shared.agilekeychain folder with your partner (along with its master password, of course).
As long as you're using 1Password 1 for Windows, remember those points I outlined above.
I hope that helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Ok.. thank you... that makes sense. I think we have the sharing working with 1Password for Windows (not the beta version) and the iOS app. I created a second password file (they aren't called vaults in the current version) and moved it to my dropbox. Shared that dropbox folder and my partner sees the shared folder in their dropbox. Opening the 1Password for Windows app and choosing the existing password file brought in the logins I had saved in there. Also got it working with the iOS app.
The only remaining question is for the licensing of the Windows software. SInce we have 2 computers and are 2 people, we'd need the family license? Or would the single license be fine?
Edit
I went with the family one as it made the most sense as we're two people with two computers.
Thanks again for the help

One folllow-up. It seems that the iPhone app can't handle multiple password files. I set it up connecting to my original password file. There isn't a way to choose which password file its going to connect to. It always wants to connect to mine.
But for the desktop app, we're good there as I can switch between my password file and my partners. My partner can see the ones I created and access the website info there.

It seems that the iPhone app can't handle multiple password files.
We expect an update to our iOS app to arrive in the App Store very soon, supporting multiple vaults.

Perfect.. that should be a great thing so that I can switch between the password files(vaults) on the iphone app. Very happy with my purchase thus far. I had previously been using Lastpass myself to manage my passwords. It was a nice program, but it lacked an easy way to set up a secondary password list and share that out.

Gosh, I'm sorry I missed the licensing part of your post! :(
You're right to have chosen the family license—not because of the multiple computers but because of the multiple family members: a single-user license for Mac or Windows allows you to install it on as many computers of that OS as you like, as long as you'll be the only one using 1Password on those computers.
Thanks again for using 1Password!
