Syncing with Transporter
Instead of using Dropbox for syncing, I'd like to use something called Transporter which is essentially a physical (as opposed to cloud-based) hard drive connected to the internet. It works in practice just like Dropbox in that you just put files in it. My question is: does this extend to the 1Password keychain file? That is, if I put the 1Password.agilekeychain in Transporter rather than Dropbox, will my data still sync?
Thanks!

Hi @gwalschap,
You're certainly not the first one to suggest Transporter as a sync option for 1Password! :) Now, it isn't currently a supported sync solution, but you could use Folder Sync to sync your 1Password data to the Transporter from your Mac. Unfortunately, this option will not work for iOS, so you'll need to use Wi-Fi to get your 1Password data onto your iOS devices.
I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions!

As like many other 1Password users, I sync via Dropbox, but here's the question: can the Transporter Sync be used to do the same job as Dropbox? Does anyone else use the Transporter Sync for password syncing?

Hello mega,
Yes thanks, that answer helps my decision whether to buy the transporter sync. I haven't bought it yet and wanted to know if it would help with 1P but, as you say, it won't work with iOS then I'll stick with Dropbox syncing for now.0 -
In light of the recurring breaches affecting cloud storage (directly or indirectly), I anticipate "personal cloud" devices are going to proliferate at a pretty fast clip (transporter, lima, pogo, etc). I guess the question is whether there is a "platform independent" way for 1password to facilitate syncing with personal clouds, or because of the specific app/software implementation this will have to be done device-by-device? BTW, I love 1password and recommend it virtually every week to someone (and my company's IT staff routinely recommend it as well).

Hi @passwordman,
Thanks so much for the kind words about 1Password! We're still exploring personal cloud storage as a sync option, and I can't say much more than that at this time. You do bring up a good point though: each sync service we consider does have to offer us an API that we can make use of on all of the platforms that we offer 1Password, otherwise we risk leaving some users out of sync.
In any case, we are excited by the possibilities!

@passwordman - this is a request I made over a year ago. Thought I heard some discussion between MacSparky and the 1Password folks during a recent (Sept/Oct 2014) MacPowerUsers podcast about the possibility that iOS8 or Yosimite may be offering better/alternative ways to sync. @Megan - can you now speak to this? (It apparently happened after your 5-Sept post). Thanks in advance and I'm still hoping for an iOS 1Password FileTransporter solution! Best, Bill.

Hi Bill ( @Yooser ),
Unfortunately, I don't have anything to announce at this time. Please understand, this doesn't mean that we're not working on alternative sync solutions, but there are a lot of factors involved in implementing any new feature, and a major feature like sync has infinitely more factors that can affect its outcome. We don't want to promise something that ultimately becomes impossible due to factors beyond our control.
Thanks so much for checking in on us, I'll be sure to let our developers know you're excited about Transporter sync. :)

Just got a Drobo Transporter Kit with a Drive. Great for private storage which also uses AES 256-bit encryption.
I also cast my vote for API support to be built in 1P which would allow syncing with Transporter!
In my opinion 1P is a leader in listening to their clients (I have personally have experienced it) and in adopting new ways to stay ahead of other developers. Please remain an example to the rest of the world as a forward thinking team.http://www.filetransporter.com/app-developer-api/

+100 Please. I'm an Apple Consultant and President of the Victoria Macintosh Users Group in BC. We're actively pursuing promotion and deployment of File Transporter in Canada, and having support of a developer like Agilebits is in my opinion crucial to its success. I've got a lot of interest from clients of mine for the Transporter platform, and we really need to see products like 1Password jumping on board.

As you can guess, there hasn't been any progress on this lately. Now we do take each voice on board so I'm adding both of your votes to the request to show demand for it and I've brought this up with the iOS people too. I can't promise anything I'm afraid but they will discuss the matter.

Thanks littlebobbytables!
Please do not forget about us especially since you guys are the ones to make others to follow your example. We can make this thing to keep rolling and to be able to secure our private info even more then before.0 -
Hi @Rococoo ,
As littlebobbytables says, we are listening. Obviously, adding a new sync option is no minor feat, and because we offer 1Password across so many platforms, we do need a lot from a sync service ... but it's great to hear that there's so much interest for Transporter sync!

Is it possible to sync 1Password with Transporter?

Hi @johnclark,
There was a thread about this just recently. Perhaps that provides the info for you.

Hi @johnclark,
I merged your post with the thread from MrC's link, since it's for the same question. Please take a look through this discussion for more information. I'm sorry we don't have a better answer for you, but hopefully the information & suggestions here are helpful!
