Why is 1Password defaulting to Documents instead of OneDrive? [OneDrive is a cloud folder]

Why does 1Password use the Documents folder on This PC instead of the one on SkyDrive/OneDrive by default on Windows 8.1 when creating a new keychain?

    Hi @KeithWeisshar,

Why should it be defaulting to OneDrive? No apps should default to the cloud folders if they care about the privacy and security of their user's data, especially when there is a chance that the user may have accidentally selected it without understanding the implications of it.

Since 1Password is dealing with your private data, it will never default to any location that could leave your computer. Documents remains the best place to store user's private data. The user can always change it to OneDrive if they want it.

WordPad automatically defaults to OneDrive in Windows 8.1 when saving.

Just because WordPad does it, doesn't make it a good idea.
    MikeT's assessment is spot on.

  • Hi guys,

WordPad automatically defaults to OneDrive in Windows 8.1 when saving.

I understand and each app will do it differently, the developers are the ones who set the default location.

For us, OneDrive is not the right default location because of the privacy and security concerns. You can always change it to OneDrive if you want to move your data folder there.
