Number of items shown in Mini

How does 1Password chose what will be shown and in what order in the Mini dropdown?

I have some sites where there are multiple login's, but only one shows and I have to select "Show # more items" to view the additional login options. This number seems to vary indiscriminately. Sometimes it will show only 1 login, sometimes 2, sometimes 8 (yes, I have that many logins for some sites) before it shows the "Show # more items" option.

Also, how does it pick what shows above the "Show # more items" and is there any control?

I am an admin for several Google Apps domains and I would love to be able to set what logins show vs. what is consolidated in the "Show # more items" option.

Here is an example where I have 3 logins, only one is visible:

This one, the one that is visible is one that get's rarely used.

Here is an example where I have 10 logins, only 5 are visible:

2 of the 5 shown are rarely used and 4 that aren't show are regularly used.

Is there any way to set what is shown and in what order?

Thanks

Carl

  • Hi @halfpast3,

The items in 1Password mini are sorted using three criteria — subdomain matching, favorites, and alphabetical order.

When a page is active in your web browser, the logins for that website will be displayed in this order (by default):

    1. Favorites (subdomain match)
    2. Alphabetical order (subdomain match)
    3. Favorites (same domain, but different subdomain) — you must click show x more items
    4. Alphabetical order (same domain, but different subdomain) — you must click show x more items

If "Lenient URL matching" (under Preferences > Browser) is enabled, subdomains will be ignored, and the sort order will be:

    1. Favorites (for any subdomain on domain.com)
    2. Alphabetical order (for any subdomain on domain.com)

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help! :)

Thanks, that does help. What criteria is used for how many are shown? One website that I can think of has 5 logins and it shows all 5. Thanks again for the help

    Hi Carl ( @halfpast3‌ )

Do you have 'Lenient URL Matching' enabled? (You can check in Preferences > Browser). If you are using precise domain matching, which is the default setting, 1Password will display all of the Logins that are a precise match. The lenient matches (with differing subdomains) will be hidden behind the 'Show More' option, as @JasperP mentions above.

In general, it looks like 1Password Mini will display 6 records before using the 'Show More' option.

I hope this helps - we're here for any other questions you might have!

    Hi Carl ( @halfpast3‌ ),

Here are some examples of what @Megan described.

When opening 1Password mini on a page that has more than six matching Login items, all of them are displayed when Lenient URL matching is disabled:

The first five are displayed, then Show N more items, when Lenient URL matching is enabled:

And if there are exactly six matching items, all are displayed when Lenient URL matching is disabled or enabled:

In that case, Show N more items is replaced by the sixth item. :)

Thanks for the responses. It all makes sense now. I do not have lenient URL matching enabled. For all my Google logins, the 5 that showed all had the www.google.com as the URL where as the 5 that did not show were just google.com.

I am going back through and adjusting domain names and will actually starting to use the favorites to help filter the results. Thanks again for all the info.

    You're welcome, Carl, on everyone's behalf. :)

Adjusting URLs in website fields can be useful, especially ones originally auto-saved on sign up pages that you later discover are uncooperative with Go & Fill (aka open and fill) as sign in pages.
