Default login hotkey on Norwegian keyboards

1Password uses the hotkey ALT + \ by default. This key combination (actually ALT GR + ) is needed to type French accents on Norwegian keyboards, e.g. "é".

Maybe you should use a different hotkey or disable this feature by default.

In my installation in the USA the default hotkey was Ctrl-\ which is suitable for this locale. You can change the hotkey in the app > Preferences > Logins by specifying a different one in the "Login keyboard shortcut" item. Is it suitable for you to do this when you install the program? Or perhaps you wish to request a new feature, that the 1Password installer check the PC's locale at installation time and set the hotkey to None for certain international regions.

  • Hi @fwi‌,

Disabling the feature by default isn't something we're going to do because it could lead to confusion that the shortcut doesn't work in all locations that does use the standard US layout, which is not exclusive to USA.

There isn't a way to determine in advance what shortcut should be used for all layouts as we have seen different users recommending different shortcuts for the same layouts such as German.

If we add this during the installation or a setup guide, do you think that'd help you adjust the keyboard shortcut better?

For the German keyboard layout, we default to Ctrl+#

Maybe we should do the same for the Norwegian keyboard layout?
