Stumped trying to update to 1Password4

in 1Password 4 for Windows

I downloaded 1Password4 and when running setup I get the message "Setup has detected that 1Password is currently running". I do not see where it is running. I have rebooted and have not logged into the old version. Do I need to uninstall the old version first and if so will my personal files remain?

    Please reboot your PC, then try again. You might want to consider re-booting your PC in safe mode.

    Not necessarily. 1Password 4 is designed to peacefully co-exist with the old version.

    and if so will my personal files remain?

    Yes. The un-installer will not remove your 1Password data.
