1Password does not seem to work with UPS.com accounts

I have one of the free UPS accounts for tracking my packages that come to my through this courier. When I use 1P with the UPS log-in screen I get an error message saying that my ID and passwords don't match my account.

If I manually type in the password it seems like everything is fine and lets me in. It seems as though there is something in the web form that doesn't like the way the passwords are put into the password field by 1P. The UPS log-in screen also doesn't let me copy and paste in the password either. It only works when I type it in.

One thought and idea I had for these types of fields that are not letting pasted passwords what a technique that the spelling checker software called "Spell Catcher" did. What it would do when you typed an incorrect spelling is that it actually "typed" in the correction by simulating keystrokes on the keyboard. Unfortunately and tragically, Evan Michael Gross, the developer passed away suddenly at the end of June, 2012 I am always holding for hope that the software keeps working for me with each new OS X release.

Anyway, maybe something like this technique could work for these new types of "protected" password fields.

Cheers, SkipR.

    Hi SkipR ( @skippingrock‌ ),

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your UPS Login. Of course the first thing to check here is that 1Password is actually entering the correct password. You can do this either by checking in the existing entry in 1Password, or manually saving a new version of the Login like so:

    Let's try this:

    • Edit the login that you currently have for this website by appending an "Old" to the title - just so you can tell them apart.
    • Visit the site and fill in the fields you want filled. Do NOT click the login button.
    • Click the 1Password extension, and unlock it if necessary.
    • Click the gear icon (or vault icon if multiple vaults are enabled) in the upper right corner.
    • Select Save new login.
    • Give the entry a unique and identifiable title.
    • Click Save.
    • Revisit the site and see if 1Password fills in the site correctly.

However, whenever I hear that typing the password in manually works, but 1Password's filling fails, I suspect that the website in question might have a hidden limit on how long your password can actually be.

Sometimes, a website will have an invisible cap on what can be typed in the password field. If you type in a password that is longer than the acceptable length, you may notice that the final characters that you type are not being logged. Of course, if you are using our strong password generator to generate "super-secure-long-password", you wouldn’t notice that the website is silently ignoring the last few characters, and saving "super-secure-long-pa” instead. When you copy and paste the password in, it works in such a way that the website sees the "super-secure-long-pa” part and can still ignore the excess. Filling with 1Password works a little bit differently though, so you might get an incorrect password warning.

If saving a new version of the Login doesn't work, I would suggest looking into if there are any hidden password restrictions for the site and create a fresh password that fits within those restrictions.

Hello, I'm just reporting that as of iOS beta 5.5-b20 and OS X beta 5.4-b22 this issue seems to be resolved.
I do not know if if was due to a fix with 1P nor if it was due to a fix with the UPS site itself, I suspect the later.

I apologize for not keeping up to date on this one.

    But, Yay! It's gone.
    Cheers.

Hi @skippingrock we never mind waiting for good news  I"m glad to hear we've made progress however it might have happened. There are sites that do there level best to insist on the fields being filled a character at a time and it's there to defeat the fields being filled automatically.

I still don't understand. Anything that forces the user to type anything out will mean your average user will pick something easy to remember and easy to type - I know my heart sinks if I make the realisation that I need to manually type one of my passwords out as the potential for typos is massively high and that's if I'm slowly taking my time. So whether it was us or UPS, here's to one less headache inducing site!
