Syncing via iCloud

There has been lots of confusion about iCloud syncing with 1Password and I would like to get some clarification.

Currently, I am using 1Password v. 4.4.3 on two Macs running Mountain Lion (10.8.5). Around September, I noticed that 1Password iCloud stopped synching my devices, including my iPhone, which is running 1Password 5. So, I switched to WiFi sync, which has its own limitations and was unimpressed with Dropbox synching.

I know I am still two operating systems behind and would like to get the latest and greatest, but there is a lot of software updates and testing that will need to happen before I'll upgrade.

So, my question is what must I do to have a functioning iCloud sync between my 2 Macs and iPhone? Do I need to upgrade to Yosemite? 1Password for Mac 5 for my Macs? I would appreciate some guidance.

Thanks.

Have a look at the AgileBits iCloud FAQ, which you will probably find answers your questions.

  • Hi @zenitsky,

Our new iCloud sync in 1Password 5 is not backwards compatible with 1Password 4.

In version 5, iCloud sync was rewritten from the ground up to use CloudKit, a new technology from Apple that’s built into OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and iOS 8. CloudKit is not available on OS X 10.9 or iOS 7.

If you don't want to upgrade to OS X Yosemite and 1Password 5 for Mac yet, we recommend using Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync instead.
