Sync Not Happening

I have 1Password on my Mac and iPhone. According to the Mac's 1Password preferences, it's syncing with Dropbox at ~/Dropbox/Apps/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain. According to the iPhone settings, it's syncing with Dropbox at /apps/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain, which seems to me (regardless of the capitalization) to be the same location. But a recent update to a password that I entered on my Mac is not appearing on the iPhone.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this?

Thanks,
Chuck

    Hi @chivalry71‌

Certain filesystems can be case sensitive, allowing both app/ and App/ at the same level but I've just tested Dropbox and it doesn't so it should be syncing.

What I would suggest is to try creating a new test item on both your Mac and iPhone, do either of these items make it to the other device or does it seem like synchronisation is broken at the moment?

It might also be worth checking the Sync status for both devices.

If you can let us know the results of the test and if both copies of 1Password are saying they're syncing (and when they last did) and we can continue the troubleshooting from there.

Here are the steps I performed and the results (which, if tl;dr, worked).

To get around the trouble I had turned on iCloud syncing and WiFi syncing so my first intention was to turn these off. I launched 1Password on the iPhone and unlocked it with my thumbprint. I was presented with a dialog that said "Please unlock 1Password on your Mac. 1Password encountered a problem." Leaving the dialog there I launched the Mac version and unlocked it. After it had been running for a few moments I dismissed the dialog on the iPhone. The dialog appeared again. I dismissed three or four times before it stopped appearing.

On the iPhone I went to Settings>Sync. Last sync was set as 20 seconds ago via Wi-Fi. I tapped the Sync Service button and then Sync with Dropbox. Then tapped Disable Sync. I tapped my name in the list that then appeared. It found the data at /apps/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain. I tapped this. I waited for Last Sync to stop saying In Progress before continuing.

On 1Password for Mac I opened the preferences and clicked Sync. I turned off Wi-Fi syncing. Is said it was already syncing with Dropbox, so I didn't change anything there. The folder it was showing was the same as I described originally.

I manually created a login password and filled it with a 1Password generated password and then clicked Save.

I waited for the iPhone to sync automatically, still having the sync settings screen on it. When the Last Sync time reset to 0 I navigated out of that and back to the database. I clicked Categories and performed a search for the item I had just created on the Mac. It showed up correctly.

So perhaps whatever I did with the WiFi sync or iCloud sync fixed things. I don't know. I do know that the problem was changing an entry not creating a new one. To check this, I went back to the Mac version and changed a password by copying it and pasting it to the end so that was actually the same password twice (so I can change it back easily). I waited again for the sync timer to reset to zero and checked it on the iPhone and it had been updated.

I perhaps should mention that there was a restart of my computer before I performed all of these steps, so perhaps that is related. Regardless, it seems to be working now.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

Hi @chivalry71‌ A few things seems to have been changed/tried there so we may never know exactly what resolved it.

The goal behind the new items was more to aid in determining if syncing was happening at all (despite it saying it was) or if there was a more subtle issue at the heart of the matter.

I'm glad to hear that whatever you did kick-started syncing but if you have any problems going forward we are here to assist.
